This is Imperial Hotel. Matsuo met Hiroki near the hotel. Hiroki pointed to 2nd floor's window, and one man was over there.

*I haven't read English version, so I'm not sure those conversations are correct. :o

1936 February.

Hiroki said "Look over there".
Matsuo; "Where?"
Hiroki;"2nd floor, 3rd window from left. Can you see that man?"
Matuso;"What's that man?"
Hiroki;"The man is thinking that places are good for seeing the Emperor. But he will know he is misunderstanding"

The Togetsukyo Bridge in Kyoto.

In November 10, 1927. This place is where Matsuo was standing in dawn.

You're welcome. But translation was difficult. Because a lot of proper nouns contain. So I hope my poor translation helped you.

Kenji, Do you know if this hotel was designed by American architect Frank Lloyd Wright? If this is that hotel, it was one of few buildings standing after an earthquake. Wright received a letter signed by the Emperor thanking him for designing such a fine structure, but it turns out that Wright sent the letter to himself. This story was related to me by FLWright tour guide in Oak Park, IL, so I believe it to be true.

Your "poor" translation is fantastic! Wish my Japanese was as good as your English!

Thank you so much for the wonderful Black Wind pictures and translations. I especially loved the picture of the Togetsukyo Bridge. It was not at all what I pictured when reading Black Wind.

It might be time to pick that great book back up again! Smile

Kenji, do you have any pictures of Kyoto? I loved Memoirs of a Geisha and would like to see what Kyoto looked like in the 30's.
