That's nifty. For me it makes the setting much more real (particularly since I've never been farther east than Denver). Thanks for the photos.

Maybe someone should also do a map that shows where these things are located. Or how about markers in Google Earth?

Nice shots, Maggers. Thanks. I toured the area myself after reading HARBINGERS. Looked carefully for bodies, but didn't find a single one. Guess New York's Strongest (that's the Sanitation Dept., non-NY gang) are on the job.

of my old neighborhood! I lived at 63rd St., between 1st and York for over 15 years. The East River looks a hell of a lot cleaner than I remember it. In my day, it was very unusual to see anyone swimming in it (unless, of course, they was sleepin wid da fishes). Summers while in college, I was a doorman at the York River House apartments, on York Ave., between 63rd and 64th Streets. Summertime, we used to swim at the John Jay pool you showed. Back then, the old neighborhood side streets still had some of the old brownstones and multi-leveled tenements from the 30s and before, while the new condos were up on the avenue.

Is Il Vagabondo still there? It was my favorite Italian restaurant, 62nd St., just west off 1st Ave. One of the only two indoor bocce ball courts left in Manhattan.

Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane. I need to get back one day for a visit.

Il Vagabondo is still there, bocce ball courts and all. My first apartment in Manhattan was on 62nd and 2nd, just up the block. I ate there many times but never did try bocce ball.
