It's a sad day for Latrobe, PA, for Jack, and for beerlovers everywhere:

I will soon be drinking my last Rolling Rock. Henceforth, it will be Rolling Rock in name only. Nothing more than a crappy macrobrew. Budweiser with a different name. Jack switched beers just in time.

So why doesn't someone step in and buy the plant? Oh, it is easier for the company to write it off, than sell it? Perhaps AFTER they write it off, someone could buy it for firesale price and start their own RR microbrew.

Sooner or later Yuenling will be sold off, too...

Sad (don't drink beer much anymore - do like the occasional Guiness, however... )

I'll just dig into my cookie jar for some mad money.

This quote made me twitch slightly. "A customer who drinks nothing but Rolling Rock came in and switched today to Coors Light." I'd never switch to Coors Light from any kind of beer...

I would never have any light beer unless there was no other beverage available and dehydration was the alternative.

That is heartbreaking. I have moved on in recent years to darker beers, but RR will always remind me of college and 6th street. Another chapter in life closes.

I quaffed many a RR in Brockport days, Biggles, but I always found it a little harsh and bitter to me buds. There was a local brew called Genesee I found much superior.

Ah, the Screaming Gennies; still like 'em today.
