Damn! There I was looking forward to the adventures of a young adult Repairman Jack, wherein Jack gets into lots of scrapes as he grows his way into what he is today. Then, reading this month's news email, it dawns on me that young adult Repairman Jack books are... well, aimed at young adults. I guess I should have read this information more carefully in the first instance, but - damn! again - I was looking forward to seeing Youth-Jack become Man-Jack.

I'm looking forward to the new series too.

The stories will be set in 1982-83 when he's 13-14. His home town will be set on the edge of the Pine Barrens -- which will loom large in the stories. A place to explore and find...stuff. Mr. Foster's land will be nearby. Folks will venture into the pines to buy applejack from the Appleton family. Mulliners and McKelstons will pass through town. Jack's part-time job will be in a store called USED, full of neat old stuff that he comes to appreciate. There'll be a reputedly haunted house, a reputed witch (who has a dog -- aiiiii!) and Weird Walt, a reclusive Vietnam vet who can act pretty strange at times.

Too much fun! I've always wondered where Jack got his love of "neat old stuff". Some of my favorite parts of the stories are when Jack acquires a new treasure (or eyes someone else's Quisp watch). LOL

And even a woman with a dog! I can't wait!!
