I'm reading Midnight Mass. I am about 3/4 of the way through it. I remember reading the teaser for the book before I bought it. FPW was tired of the poor examples of vampires that "other" writers had come up with. He wanted to write a book that showed what vampires really were. He did'nt like the "Hollywood" version of vamps. Anyway........As I was reading I noticed that the vampires would read Anne Rice novels to each other for a laugh. I thought that this was just perfect and ballzie. I enjoyed reading about "real" vampires laughing at the works of the biggest name in vampire novels. I love the twist Paul.

Taking a poke is too generous. I'd rather take a huge swing at Anne Rice. Why, oh why, do people keep reading her stuff. The only entertainment I got out of her writing is the review for her Jesus book in the Chicago Tribune. They didn't think too highly of her either.

I love Anne Rice, she is great, a bit more catholic undertones than I like, not being catholic, and she dwells on the good vs evil, or god vs satan a bit much, but I still love her writting, although I do immagine that a vamp would be a bit more devious, and mean than in her novels

I'm told I pissed off lots of Rice fans with that -- that some are even making an effort to go around and post bad reviews because of those few sentences.

I'm sure Ms. Rice would understand if she read it -- given the ferocity and coarseness of my vampires, that's exactly how they'd react to hers.

Rice fans would appreciate the irony. Rice "fanatics" would seek to defend her "writing" at any cost.

I just don't find her writing worth the effort to read.

I like her earlier stuff. I just think she kept going too much on the same thing. I mean, no offense, I liked Lestat in the first 3 or 4 books, but after that I kind of got sick of him.

Ferocity and coarseness?! Now I'm reading Sims, and next I decided to read "Midnight Mass"!

Paul's vampires must have a longer attention span than I have. Or maybe they just skip to the funniest bits. Seriously, I know Rice has her fans, but I'm just not one of them. I struggled through Interview With the Vampire (and in fairness, I really liked the movie version, which was scripted by Rice herself), but I tried to get through Lestat at least twice and gave up out of sheer boredom each time around halfway through. I doubt I'll ever bother trying to read any of her work again. I just don't have the tenacity. But that's just me.

I wonder if they have a word for me then, as I was only able to read about a chapter and a half from IWAV. She is the densest writer this side of Tolkien.
