Well I talked myself into watching this movie today. Kept putting it off because I thought it wouldn't be worth the time. I hadn't even bothered to read reviews or learn who was in it. Adam Sandler stepping in to Burt's shoes?? Come on!! Just another failed remake. Right?

Well...have to say I liked it!! Funnier than I expected, and well made. Lot of people in the film that I was happy to see. And Sandler did a good job. Funny without being his old self. Kevin Nash was great. Burt actually taking a shot from Bosworth. Sandler taking on Romanowski - I'd like to know what was going through Adam's mind before shooting that scene. I've seen Bob Sapp before on tv. In a word - frightening. (Was this The Longest Yard or The Green Mile?) But where in the hell did they find Dalip Singh?!?!?! 7'2", 400lbs.....of muscle???? Freakish.

I still prefer the original to the remake but I definitely wasn't disappointed. Maybe I just expected a real turd and was served a turd-substitute instead? Rolleyes

I still don't understand the current Hollywood mania for remakes of perfectly good flicks. But tell me,Sam--did the new one have what I thought was the best scene in the old?--"I told you I'd break his fucking neck!"

Same here on remakes. I say take the crappy movies that could have been good and remake those.

Unfortunately some original scenes and lines were changed - a real shocker there. Including that classic line. But I think you should give it a chance, Mike. The original was more serious than this one. They kept this one lighter and it worked. Well, for me it did. I don't think you'll be too disappointed.

I like remakes, if they are actually re-made. I don't like scene for scene reshoots, but often taking a story and moving it into a different time/setting can have fantastic results. A Fistfull of Dollars is a good example. Another remake that I liked was The Ladykillers. While no one can touch Alec Guinness, The Coen version had some scenes that were "Dark Comedy" at it's best. I remember a theater full of people laughing at the third or fourth body being dumped off the bridge onto the trash heap.

I don't like the fact that most remakes are just cash-grabs. I'd like to see more effort put into origional material. So many movies are just made to cash in on the success of other films.

All-in-all, I'd say, while we are getting more crappers now than ever before, we're also getting some truely "great" films too. Kill Bill (combined) and Sin City will go down on the all-time great list. So will many others from the early 21st century.

My point, t4, is that there are =plenty= of new stories to be told. Would you rather listen to a Beatles tribute album (worthy as it might be) or new music by a good new band with their own songs to sing?

I might have to see this now. I'll overlook Romanowski being in it in order to see Kevin Nash. I had no idea Nash was in it!!!! Big Grin

At one time they where, but, Metallica hasn't been an option for a long time! Sad

I must reluctantly agree with KRW here. (Though every Yankee fan pumps a fist when Mo Rivera strides from the bullpen to the strains of "Enter Sandman"!)

The Longest Yard remake??? With Adam Sandler????

I like original film. I haven't seen remake yet. I guess it can't go over the original. But Sam said "I liked it",
so I believe you, Sam! Wink

Someday I can see it.....maybe in next year. Rolleyes
