Looking at Borderlands Press website, it seems that the special edition of Nightworld will be published in February 2006. In a previous post, I had been told that the special edition of Nightworld will be a revised edition, including all the extra information that Jack has learned along his path.

But clearly, Jack will have more adventures after the release of Nightworld(as they're already advertising a pre-May 2006 order for the next RJ book). So my question is this:

Will the Borderlands Press Nightworld still be a revised version? And if so, what can we expect from RJ books written after Nightworld's release? Is he not going to learn anything new? Because if he does, that information will not be included in the new Nightworld.

What's going on? I'm so confused!

Borderlands is releasing the revised edition of Nightworld in February 2006. When Paul wrote Nightworld he wasn't planning any other Jack books so in Nightworld he isn't aware of what is happening on a cosmic scale. The revision will update it so that Jack is more aware of the "Otherness".

Exactly...so wouldn't those newly learned things impact "Nightworld" in some way. It would make sense to my tiny mind to wait on the revision of "Nightworld" until all RJ books are written. But of course, I hope that never happens. I hope there is a neverending supply of new RJ books.

I guess if "Nightworld" is to be revised, it might be best, as FPW has done, to pick a date, make the revisions, and continue to write RJ novels until the end of time.

But, unlike 1991/2 when Paul wrote Nightworld, he didn't know Jack was coming back. Now that he's writing Jack and knows what everything is leading up to there is no real reason to hold off on a Nightworld revision. Keep in mind Paul has stated he has 2-3 Jack books planned while he writes the current one (unless I'm remembering some conversation that never took place in which case this argument has no bearing). Also remember that there isn't much more that needs to be revealed to Jack about the Otherness. He's pretty much accepted it.

So, again, there is no reason to hold off on a Nightworld revision except to torture us.

It's simple really. Paul can write as many RJ books as he wants as long as RJ's knowledge of the Otherness (which is pretty complete now) is consistent with the revised Nightworld.

Biggles pretty much has it. After RJ-10 (still can't come up with a title) Jack will have learned pretty much all he needs to know about the Ally and the Otherness. (But there'll be other things he'll learn later that won't impinge on Nightworld). What I have to decide is whether he meets Glaeken before Nightworld. Either way, I have to change the expository conversation with Glaeken early in the book. I haven't looked at the novel yet, but I'm sure the rest of the changes will be little more than shadings.

You're also going to have to give Jack a new reason, other than uncertain belief, for failing to join Glaeken right away. Jack shouldn't really need to wait on proof at this point. Yet, if he joins up too soon, it makes it too easy for him to accomplish his mission before things get really bad. Hmmm.

And what are you going to do about all the lovely Joe Bob Briggs movie marathons? Joe Bob and Ted Turner are splitsville now.

Sir, if I may, If you were to completely rewrite Nightworld, a Nightworld 2.0 so to speak, you could therefore tie in far more things. It would also greatly extend the life of the individual RJ novels, therefore being able to build the characters even further.

I have actually held off reading nightworld, for fear of what might happen to our boy Jack, since I am sure the character has greatly matured in the ten+ years since you wrote it.
