As most are aware, "Conspiracies" was the first RJ book published by Gauntlet Press as a limited edition. Since then we've had six new titles. Being a perfectionist I don't like having an unmatchable book such as the Tor edition of "Legacies" in my collection.

So my question (and this may be more for Paul to answer but others can try to explain this to me) is why hasn't Gaunlet published a limited edition of "Legacies"? Granted, it wouldn't be a first edition but I would love to have this RJ book match the others.

Explanation anyone?

I've asked the same question. The UK edition (which I have) by Colin Andrews is the true first, but a Gauntlet Press edition would still be limited, even if not a first. It could be produced in 500-1000 copies and sell out immediately.

I asked Barry at Gauntlet about this a while back. I can't remember his exact words, but this is basically what he said: They'd LOVE to put out a s/l of "Legacies", but they would need to strike a deal with the original publisher who still owns the rights. I think he said they'd probably look seriously into it after the RJ's are done with.

I'll see if I can find that e-mail he sent when I get home tonight.

I figured it had something to do with the original publishers but wasn't sure. That clears it up. Thanks!

Okay, found the e-mail.

This is from Barry Hoffman when I asked him about a "Legacies" s/l/l:

"If we did LEGACIES it would have to be some sort of anniversary edition. The problem was the hardcover came out both in the US and UK before Paul decided to make it series. He had to fulfill a contract that called for a medical thriller, which he wasn't thrilled to do. So he used Repairman Jack and the medical plot to fulfill his obligation. It's the only book in the series that does not include anything dealing with the Otherness mythology. It's a real oddity. I have to approach Paul, but I would think that on its 10th anniversary it might be a book to publish as a limited -- definitely no sooner."

So I was wrong about RJ finishing first, it was the 10th anniversary thing.

Ah, you boys do good work. According to the latest edition of the F File it's soon to be a reality. Just a suggestion but it would be nice if Harry Morris did the cover art to keep in line with the other books in the series.

It wouldn't be necessary but would be nice to keep the short stories w/ the rest of the set. Chronologically works as well. Just a thought.

That's a great idea. Would also fit together as none of the stories are overtly Otherness related.

I see that pre-ordering the LE of Legacies is now possible. Can someone confirm that it is Gauntlet that is publishing it?
