I believe Barry Hoffman of Gauntlet let a big chunk of the print run for The Haunted Air go to a single distributor, causing the book to sell out long before publication. Whether that distributor is sitting on their copies, or has sold them, I don't know, but only a handful have shown up on the auction sites.
I usually purchase directly from Gauntlet, but didn't order in time before the book sold out. Somehow, I managed to get a copy from Amazon for less than Gauntlet's price (I want to say I paid around $38 vs. Gauntlet's $50 or $55?).
For awhile there, I was convinced that Biggles had purchased a couple hundred copies from Barry and was just hording them for his own personal use...
