Can't remember if threads have been done for these. Anyway...

Primer - A Sundance film about 4 guys that do some scientific experimenting after work. While working on a promising project, a new discovery is made that allows them to change their lives. It can be really difficult to follow due to the use of physics lingo, paradox, who's who, etc. Rather than boring you it makes you want to pay more attention in order to understand. Really good movie for the VERY small budget it was given. Don't bother putting down the remote and keep your finger on the rewind button.

House of Flying Daggers - This is Zhang Yimou's next film since Hero. It's a good flick with great action scenes but it is ultimately about love and betrayal. It does have a little of the cinematic beauty of Hero but it compares more to Crouching Tiger. Some scenes are a bit too long and it's easy to see the plot twists coming. Still, it's worth renting.

I guess you really like Asain movies. Smile

I saw both movies. I prefer Hero. HOFD was very beautiful, but a little bit bored....

I watched House of Flying Daggers last weekend. In my opinion it is the most visually beautiful of the three movies (Crouching Tiger and Hero being the other two). The story does get a bit slow, as Kenji said, mainly because it is a love story and less of an action movie than the other two. However I found the love story better than that of Crouching Tiger.

Note: I'm not a big fan of Crouching Tiger. I found most of it (especially the middle section and desert scenes) quite boring. Crouching Tiger is my least favorite of the three.

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. ... The piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

I thought House of Flying Daggers was a visual feast. I wish I'd seen it in the theater on a big screen. I agree with you, Jim, it was the most beautiful of the three movies.
