Maggers Wrote:What are your favorite movie soundtracks?

Mine are, in no particular order:

Last of the Mohicans
Gone With the Wind
Bandits
Shrek
Gladitor
The Third Man
Psycho
Brotherhood of the Wolf
Kill Bill, Vol. 1
The Long Journey Home (not a movie, but a PBS special about the Irish in America)
The earlier James Bond movies (I'm particularly fond of "You Only Live Twice")
The Night of the Hunter (I don't know that this qualifies for a soundtrack, but Charles Laughton's use of Robert Mitchum's whistling and singing that hymn was so damn eerie!)
LOTR
The Great Escape

And I know there are many more. But that's what I can come up with now.

Well, the poor broken-down bluesman will keep the flag of rock and soul flying high with A HARD DAY'S NIGHT, HELP!, MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR, LET IT BE, SUPERFLY, SHAFT, and TROUBLE MAN. (We won't--sob--talk about the Byrds' "Don't Make Waves", or "Child of the Universe" from CANDY. But we =can= throw our workingmens' caps in the air for "The Ballad of Easy Rider"--dated flick, great soundtrack. And let's not forget THE HARDER THEY COME.)

A few from me:

Body Heat

Brian's Song (It did have a brief theatrical run and its the original TV movie with Caan and Williams. Not that embarassing for the money/ratings remake)

Gladiator -one of the very best ever

Night of the Hunter- Mitchum as the preacher and that moment when he and Lillian Gush sing "Leaning"- eerie indeed

Dark Victory

Million Dollar Baby

Escape from New York

Others include Bird and Halloween

Mmmm. Let's see

The Keep
Thief
Risky Business

(All three of the above are by that great group Tangerine Dream. Perhaps you've heard of them?)

But seriously, I don't pay a lot of attention to soundtracks, but the spaghetti westerns were some of the best. I think Fistful of Dollars; For a Few Dollars More; The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly; and Hang 'em High were all great.

BTW, I've been thinking about a new thread: "Sexiest Supreme Court justices". Any interest? How about: "Most interesting accountants", "Most truthful politicians", or "Most unbiased news anchors"?

I have to add the soundtrack for "Empire of the Sun," which I just watched again. I first saw it in 1987 when it was released. I liked it a lot then, and I LOVED it now. The score is beautiful and that wondrous song that little Christian Bale sings moves me to tears every time.

Years ago my mother used to say to me... "In this world, Elwood, you can be oh so smart or oh so pleasant."
Well, for years I was smart.
I recommend pleasant.
