So I started watching this series the other night for the first time. I've never read the books. So far I've only watched the first two episodes but I am thoroughly impressed. I'm a sucker for fantasy/medival stories so I'm really enjoying this one so far. I was turned off by the
incest scene
but I had to remind myself that behavior like that was fairly common (according to history) during those times.

After watching the first three episodes of Vikings and then watching this, I can say that I will not be returning to Vikings until I'm done with Game of Thrones (if at all). Game of Thrones is far superior IMAO.

After series one (which I loved) I read all the books (so far) the books are great and as usual add more depth

That said I still enjoy the series, even though I know what is coming

During those times, when a years-long winter is arriving, dragons are coming back into the world, and zombies with piercing blue eyes are rising from the dead? Those times? Where exactly do you get your history, 'cause it sounds WAY more interesting than the history books I've been reading. Big Grin

I meant the Middle Ages in OUR history. Of course this is a fantasy story, based in a fictional land, but the similarities to the Middle Ages/Dark Ages seems fairly similar in my eyes.

I need to watch Game of Thrones since so many people I know seem to like it. And I like fantasy, dragons etc.

Is there a lot of rape in it? Some empty headed "feminists" that I know keep nattering on about "rape culture" in entertainment and mention this show a lot. I call them empty headed because they are astoundingly silent about real life cultures where rape and other atrocities are considered acceptable by the men in charge.

Why do I always do this to myself???

Lola, Game of Thrones has more battles and treachery then anything else. It's well into season 3 now, so I suggest you stream the first 2 seasons to really appeciate how well done it is.
Women and children have a harder life in that world, that is true. But rape isn't something that happens on screen as your "friends" are saying.
Even though I've read the books, I'm still watching if that's any recommendation.

Good to know - based on the harping and whining, I was beginning to think that the show revolved around men attacking women.

Just because the history books didn't report on these things don't mean that they didn't happen!
