Not really excited about this one. For one thing, Superman is about as vanilla a superhero as you can get. Nice kid grows up into a nice man with superpowers, so there's that. Also, Dawn of the Dead aside, Zach Snyder's movies are beautiful pctures stuffed to the point of silliness with melodramatic cliches. Finally, there's that lyrical, sad ballet music going through the whole trailer. Compare and contrast with this:

The sad silly ballet music is supposed to make us feel sorry for the poor powerful kid who has to hide who he is and his feelings of loneliness and rejection when people don't accept him or something.

I'm waiting for Wonder Twins movie. Ok, not really...

Why do I always do this to myself???

You hit the nail on the head with the score issue, Williams score is so iconic that anything else sounds like crap, hell thats about the only good thing Singer got right in the abominable Superman Returns.

I just hope they can do serious without going dark, Superman is the one character who you don't go dark with, he is the embodiment of the best in all of us, the shining light to look towards, not brooding and emo-ish. There are occasions where it has worked, but very rarely.

I am looking forward to this, the trailer is just so melancholy though. I want it to be heroic and triumphant and even though I am a fan of the Williams score, I think it is well past time to move on from it.

The makers of this film want to start fresh without any ties to previous incarnations. Using a different score is an important step in this process. However, the music they chose for the trailer is abysmal. I still have pretty high hopes for this one.

I agree completely. I didn't mean you shouldn't try to top Williams score, just that you need something similar, something as evocative to have it resonate with people. This melodramatic crap is just that though, same with that original teaser trailer, no one wants to see Gorton's Superfisherman.

Again, I completely agree with setting out on your own with this, thats one of the glaring problems with Singer's shitfest movie, he tried to do an homage and came up with a poor imitation.

Also, I do have hopes for this one, I like most of Snyder's work, hopefully, he can knock this out of the park.

I have never been a fan of Superman. For similar reasons expressed already. Just not that interesting to me when a hero is so powerful that they are never really in danger or crisis.

This trailer however has me interested. More so than I would expect for a Superman movie.

One problem that I have with it is that they chose to have Zod as the villian. There are so many villians in the DC Universe from which to choose, using a villian that has appeared in a Superman movie already sees like it is still trying to evoke nostalgia for the previous films.

If you truly wanted to branch off from previous versions then they should have tapped another villian such as Braniac, Metallo, Darkseid...anyone but Luthor or Zod.

And that pretty much sums up my thoughts exactly.

This film looks like it is about Superman earning the right to be the all powerful protector of Earth, I mean, do you think any government would accept a near invincible alien force to exist in their borders without questioning their loyalties?

The triumphant theme shouldn't be anywhere near the setup, or the trailer. But I'm sure we'll get it by the end credits.
