It is really hard to think of an actor who is funny, kind, badass, not overly buff like Arnold or Sly Stallone, and gets serious when angry. Any ideas?

Christian Bale. I can immagine him pulling it off.

No, Bale is too handsome. I really want the "average" aspect of Jack to be respected when casting him. Someone here on another thread mentioned Sam Rockwell, and that's a brilliant choice. That guy is a great actor and should totally be able to pull off an average John Q. Public who can go berzerk when need be.

Welcome to the board, Sidewinder.

We've discussed this before.......almost to the point of ad nauseam. There are several threads in the archives. All have excellent suggestions.....it's just a dream though. IF....a movie is made....lots of us will rejoice. But until production starts...don't hold your breath!.....some of us remain a tad skeptical. Smile

The actor who plays Raylan on Justified would be cool.

Crazy, I've thought this actor for awhile. Great minds think alike, amirite?

Another actor I've thought about because of his quirkiness and average looks is Steve Zahn. I know he's played a lot of comedies, and I don't know if he could pull it off, but its crossed my mind.

Timothy Olyphant (Raylan) certainly has that slow burn turning to explosive violence one would need to play RJ. Zahn is an unusual choice, but interesting.

I always throw my Jeffrey Donovan from Burn Notice suggestion on these threads. "As a repairman......"

What about Malcom's Dad, a.k.a. Walter White (from Breaking Bad)?
Average looking for sure. But I like how he was able to transform from a quirky dork into a Meth King.
He'd need to add some fighting skills but I'd like him in an RJ movie.

Okay, This may sound like a bizarre choice, but maybe it is possible for Ben Affleck to play Jack. He has brown hair and eyes, about the same age, and has a causal everyday man look. He also has some experience in both action and comedy. Plus, he has been improving as an actor, writer and director. Maybe he is not a bad choice to play Jack (if they do make a RJ film).
