I consider myself a big reader. Given the choice between a book and movie, I choose a book every time. I've been reading using a kindle for well over a year now. I find it infinitely more difficult to find books I enjoy reading. I have been thinking it has something to do with choosing books using my iPad rather than in person. Does anyone else experience this same problem? I have an excellent used bookstore in town which I always seem to leave happier with my purchases when competed to my kindle purchases. This could be due to the staff (bent pages in Houma, La) being helpful. However I haven't used them consistently since purchasing my kindle, mostly due to getting there during store hours. Anyone really happy shopping with their kindle? If so, got any helpful tips?

Also, many of my favorite authors have either altered their writing style, or are winding down there careers. (Koontz, king, Stanford, wiltse, mcgammon). So some of my problem may be not knowing which new authors to give a shot.

Hmmm. Actually the Kindle has opened up worlds of possibilities for me as far as new authors go, JACKFAN123. I get to download free previews of writers I'd never heard of, and if I like that writer's style, it's a go. Amazon alone can lead you to scores of new writers based on preferences you list. I've found since obtaining my Kindle, it vastly cuts down my disappointment when sending for a book in the mail on a whim, only to find the author isn't all that great. The free preview downloads are worth it for that reason alone.

And I have more space for my physical books. There's lots of books I like, but don't require a physical copy. But if I find a book or series (like FPW's work) that rocks my world, I have to get the actual books for my collection. The Kindle is a great filter to purchase hard copies of only books you know you love. I wish I'd purchased my Kindle years ago.

I agree whole heartedly that its great to read on, not having the physical books pile up on you is great as well. I like using the kindle, it's finding the authors/series to read that has been my problem. I have to admit I don't use the free preview, often so I will start trying that and see how it goes.

Thanks

In addition to previews and recommendations from Amazon, I also follow several book related Twitter accounts and some authors. When they tweet about something that sounds interesting, I look it up. Haven't been actively seeking books lately due to some home issues, but still adding things to the queue as they pop up. I've also been catching up on some classicsi never read, like Dracula, the Midwich cuckoos, day of the triffids, etc.

I've taken on the classics route as well, the count of monte cristo, mark twain, etc. I never thought about the twitter angle, I have an account I rarely use, I'm gonna try it out.

The Kindle helped me find The Keep, since the local book stores didn't have it.
