A friend of mine recommended the Repairman Jack books to me, I'd not heard of them before but thought they sounded really interesting so I immediately got stuck in and then completely and utterly addicted to this frankly phenomenal series of books. I read somewhere that the book order is a bit tricky but most people seemed to recommend reading the Jack books first and then reading the Adversary series. I have just finished reading the Dark at the End after reading the 15 Jack books one after the other over the past few weeks and now I'm completely at a loss as to where to go next to find out what happens at the end with the Otherness. Should I go back and read the Adversary series from the start or move on to Nightworld or something else? Very confused and a little distraught at having finished this amazing series...or have I?! I'm sure I'm not the first person to ask about this, but please help and point me in the right direction.

If you haven't read the Adversary Cycle yet then do not read Nightworld. Go in this order: The Keep, Reborn, The Touch, The Tomb, Reprisal, Nightworld. This will give you the series in chronological order (not published order).

You're a legend, thank you. I've read the Tomb already but that's okay. It's great to have such a long series to read! Big Grin

Here is The Secret History of the World. It will give you Paul's preferred reading order.

Oh, and welcome to the site. Smile

I could be mistaken, but this is just the timeline of the SHOTW, not necessarily the reading order Mr. Wilson suggests.

Honestly, if you've been on a roll with Repairman Jack, you could read Nightworld straight after that. It'll make a lot of sense and introduce you to a lot of new characters which you can then read up on.

hmmm, tempting to move straight on to Nightworld but if it has that many new characters I think maybe I'd be best to read the other books first and be patient.

Welcome, Mochican!Cool

I was in the same situation as you a few months back. I found following Mr. Wilson's suggested reading order is the best bet.

Definitely hold off an Nightworld. At a minimum read The Touch, Reborn, and Reprisal first so everything makes sense. It's well worth waiting until you have all the pieces, Nightworld is a fantastic end to the Secret History.

I did the same thing. I sat myself down and reread the entire thing in "reading order" and when I bought Nightworld I was only 2 books from it. It was great to read it all start to finish! Took a couple of months but was worth it.
