I agree, Scott. I don't think Cooke is the right artist for Jack, either. His style seems more in line with Parker; maybe because his style is kind of old-fashioned (at least the style he uses on the Parker books) and that fits the Parker books he's adapted since they were originally published in the early 60's.

I agree with both of you on Cooke. I love his Parker books and of course he became the only person Stark let call the character Parker which speaks volumes... New Frontier was a breath of Nostalgic fresh air DC very much needed in their post dark gritty violent era....

You're right. I want everyone to know about jack, but I want them to find out from the books, not a movie that could become terribly wrong. I just am not so into the Gn's but on top of that I was extremely disappointed with the keep . Glaeken didn't even have long red hair! Not cool!

Chaykin would be a good candidate--I've been a fan of his since First Comics put out American Flagg! in '83. That series and Mike Grell's Jon Sable, Freelance, and Mike Baron's Badger were my favorite series from First.

I am a big fan of most of what Chaykin's done, but I do notice he tends to play fast and loose with the source material when working with other writer's characters. I imagine Jack under Chaykin's hand would be much more of a sexual athlete and womanizer. If he can stay true to what Jack's character is in the books, and doesn't make Jack a dead ringer for Reuben Flagg, he may work out well.

I haven't read the Die-Hard comics yet; I'll have to check them out.

I have to admit I've yet to read the Keep Graphic Novel. I loved the novel, and love the Glaeken character, so I will definitely be snapping that up, as well as the first Young Jack comic.

I understand your concerns, but if FPW has a decent deal in place, where he gets approval of the artist (I'm sure the artist would send him samples of characters, and take directions if FPW isn't thrilled with his/her interpretations), as well as the writer (if FPW decides not to do the scripts himself), it could result in a wonderful thing.

I run into many folks who do not want films or comics made of their favorite characters, but I try to remind them nothing is going to change the greatness of what their favorite writer has accomplished. A bad film of Graphic Novel would suck, but the books are right there on our bookshelves, unchanged. And if the film or Graphic Novel is awesome, that's just a win-win for everyone.

In some cases...yes...in others...oh hell no. Case in point. Lee Child's character, Jack Reacher. He's 6'5"...blonde...well muscled and an imposing figure. Hollywood has cast Tom Cruise to play Reacher. There are so many things wrong with this....I don't even want to go into them. I don't like Cruise....yet there are roles that he does well in. Doing Reacher....is not one of them.

I like graphic novels. They are just another way to bring more people into the world of RJ....a definite win.

I couldn't argue with you on Cruise playing Reacher, Cobalt. That's just all kinds of wrong. When I saw the trailer I actually burst out laughing unintentionally, it was just so ridiculous.

What I meant with the nothing can change the original books remark: I was paraphrasing either Raymond Chandler or William Faulkner. One of them was asked by an interviewer how they felt about how Hollywood had changed all their novels when making them into films; Ray or Bill replied: "My novels haven't been changed at all; they're right there on the bookshelf as I originally wrote them." Or something to that effect. It's been a while since I read the quote and I'm feeling too lazy to look it up and write it word for word.

No bad actor can change the vision of Jack that I have in my head. But of course I'd much rather have a suitable actor play Jack. If the studio insisted on someone like The Rock or Jon Cena playing Jack; I'd rather the film not be made at all.

We need a no name everyday face who walks the streets everyday going unnoticed, which is what the repairman is all about. If I didn't have tattoos all over my arms I'd sign my life away to play jack!!! Hahaha

Yep, agreed. But what are the chances of a big Studio having an unknown play Jack? That hasn't happened since the Chris Reeves/Superman days.
