The "Russian Lady" tells Jack at the end of "Hosts" that "a spear has no branches". He remembers having heard that before. Who told him that before, and in what book?

Earlier in "Hosts" Jack and Kate are approached by a would-be mugger, who utters the phrase.

You really only need three things: WD-40, Duct Tape, and a pointy stick. If it's supposed to move and doesn't, use the WD-40. If it moves and isn't supposed to, use the Duct Tape. If you want it to move and it doesn't want to, use the pointy stick. The rest of life is easy.

Thank you, I remember now. The one who seemed like he was in a trance.

I don't remember that. That's really creepy!

Ah, great scene. A fool flashes a knife, Jack flashes firepower (riffing here, don't have the book with me), "This isn't going down the way you thought it would, pal." "What happened back there, Jack?" "Nothing, Kate. Just a guy asking the way to Bull McCabe's Irish Pub to meet Bluesman Mike." "Bluesman Mike is =real=, Jack? I thought he was just a character in Winslow's books." "Oh, Mike is real, Kate. Just as real as you and me."
