Emma. Pretty sure the baby's name was going to be Emma.

The Mad American Wrote:Well said on how that change to Nightworld would be a major bummer. It would move it from the Adversary Cycle and move it firmly into the RJ series. I haven't read the revised Borderlands edition yet and I hope it stays true to the original, which I have read.

You are in for a treat, RJ's supporting cast get bigger roles. In particular Abe. I'll say no more as I don't want to spoil things

Britfan Wrote:Interesting question, I wondered this when I read the Borderlands version.

Given Jacks larger role in the otherness I thought FPW might throw a huge curve ball and have Jack wield the sword

Guess you'll just have to wait & see if he did

(If Marc hasn't given it awayBig Grin)
I expect that Jacks sword will be added to the other metals in order to make the new blade.

But wasn't it written in By the Sword that Jack's sword was tainted due to being caught in the atomic blast? I would still like to think that it would play a role in kicking the Otherness' arse though...

I don't remember it being tainted, iirc it was just the earthly metal that was burnt out of it from the atomic blast, leaving the original metal. Maybe I am mistaken on that. Sounds like a good reason to go back and read By the Sword.

Maybe like this...

RASALOM--No. The sword is gone...
JACK--Guess again, asshole. You're looking at it. Glaeken? More to your grip than mine.
GLAEKEN--Thank you, Jack. It's good to hold it again.

It's been bugging me like mad all day, so being the geek I am, have just looked it up...

It's discussed at the end of "By the sword" when Jack has an encounter with the Lady. She touches the sword and says that he shoudl throw it down the Hudson Canyon. When Jack asks her if it is evil, she says that good and evil don't apply to weapons, but the sword's last act was fraticide- "a terrible thing, yet done for good reason for a good end." and that the nuclear fire changed the sword in that it lost some of its steel, but gained something more. She does also say that it will be used for something momentous, but is only an instinct. She does explain that it depends on who wields the sword. So the sword isn't tainted as such, but definitely changed.

So maybe it will be an extra element to reproduce Glaeken's original sword in Nightworld (hopefully FPW will keep in the need for Kolabati's necklaces, shards of the shattered sword from The Keep and the Dat-Tay-Vao).

Nicely done. Okay so I take that to mean it was changed somewhat from the blast but the damage done to it was just the earthly metal being burnt out of it by the blast.

I am with you in wishing and I expect that the need for Kolabati's necklaces and the other pieces of sword will still be needed.

By the way, welcome to the board Portchy79.

Thank you! Think I am right in saying that the sword maker (forgotten his name, and am too comfy to get up and get By The Sword from the bookcase) added the steel to it, and yeah, the nuclear blast melted it away, but not the special metal (Allyium?). Guess we will have to wait and see how FPW approaches the update (Nightworld was my first every FPW book, and remains by far my favourite).

Thanks for the welcome- have been reading the forum for a while, but never got round to actually joining to recently!
