Whether or not it was NBC or if it is the show you are talking about, I remember a brouhaha about The Thorn Birds mini-series and its depiction of a priest.

It was called The Book of Daniel.
It was about an Episcopal priest that talked to Jesus. It was cancelled after four episodes. NBC bowed to a higher power. LOL

That's the one! I remember there were protests even before people had seen it and NBC had no intention of wavering. Until people continued protesting.

They passed an old woman who was just opening the door of a brown Cadillac. An old man was already sitting in the passenger seat. The car had a personalized plate with the letters “J-U-S-P-R-A-Y”.
“That stuff work?” Israel said to her.
“‘Scuse me?” the little old woman said, clutching her keys.
“The spray. Does it keep them away?”
“Keep who away?” She looked confused.
“I gotcha.” Israel gave her a conspiratorial wink.

yeah, the network originally showed them out of order, not realising they were buggering up a series heavy on continuing plotlines. That, and not showing it every week, changing the transmission times etc really did the show harm.

They replay American Gothic frequently on Chiller. They do daily marathons of old horror or suspence series. I've seen a few I missed completely when they were on originally.
