I see that Leslie Nielsen passed away. He certainly carved out a niche for himself in stupid comedies.

So much humor is based in cruelty. See The Stooges, or Abbot and Costello, or Laurel and Hardy, for example.

I loved Leslie Neilsen since I first saw him in SWAMP FOX, on the Wonderful World of Disney beginning 1959. He was a fox himself, back then, was dear Leslie. Actually, he retained his good looks throughout his life.
How about FORBIDDEN PLANET or the more silly TAMMY AND THE BACHELOR, both of which I enjoyed.
And his Frank Drebin roles are priceless. He was a great practical joker, too, from what I understand.
Leslie, you will be missed.

A great man. I love Forbidden Planet as a film but unfortunately I has seen Airplane first so whilst the ferocious monster of the Id was rampaging about I couldnt help expecting an outrageous joke to come along.

I think you're exactly right, Peter. Neilsen seems to have been beloved by his family and friends. I think he carried a whoopee cushion with him wherever he went. Heaven's going be a funnier, if fartier, place now.
