Yeah, Amazon will probably have it exclusively for a while. Not only are they being incredibly supportive (and for no real reason, considering the division helping us on this project is doing it as a favor), but Amazon accounts for 99.9% of the ebook money I'm earning.

Sony Readers are great, and all of my ebooks are up on Sony and Smashwords. In the case of DRACULAS, the best bet will be to download the Kindle version and convert it to epub. We'll have a tutorial on how to do that when the launch draws nearer, so Sony and Nook and Kobo and all the other ereader owners can also read it.

I didn't know there were conversion programs. That's be great. I was tempted to get a Kindle at their new lower price but the thought of having to buy all the books I've spent 3 years buying already for my Sony kind of put me off on that. Good to know I don't have to start over again.

If you are looking for a great and FREE conversion program for all your digital books, I strongly suggest using "Calibre".

It's FREE and can convert from just about any format to any format. I have used it for some time. It works in all 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows 7, Vista, and XP (not certain about ME or 98).

I constantly convert from .mobi (i.e. Kindle) to .pdf and epub/.pdf etc to .mobi etc etc. It is very easy to use.

Go to: http://calibre-ebook.com/ for more info.

Hope this helps you.

Stanza is also easy for 1-click conversions, and it functions as a reader on computers and smart phones.

Great. Free sample. But I don't own a Kindle. Should I? I kind of like having a book in my hands, open in front of me, turning pages. I like cover art. I like pics of authors in the back. Also, I like going to the library and walking the aisles, sampling, discovering. I don't know that I'd even want a Kindle. What's so great about it? And how upset do ya get when you drop it in the toilet or have it stolen?

I've used "Stanza" on my iPhone and it is a good reader via iPhone. "Stanza" is more an app/reader for iPhone/iPad designed for use via iTunes; it's not a true digital book/doc converter.

This is a cut & paste straight from the website:

"In Stanza 3.0 and higher, you can transfer your ePub, eReader, PDF, CBR, and DjVu book files to & from your desktop PC by iTunes by dragging files into the "Stanza Documents" part of the "File Sharing" section at the bottom of the "Apps" tab that appears when you select your iPad from the "Devices" list in iTunes. Note that if your books are in another format, you must first convert them using a tool like Calibre."

Note, even they reference using Calibre to convert books and using them in Stanza.

As a iphone app/reader goes, "Stanza" is awesome; great suggestion!

But "Calibre" is a one-stop shop program to convert any format to any format; and you don't need iTunes to import to your Kindle, Sony Reader, Nook etc.

I've downloaded Stanza to my PC. That's the version with the converter on it, and it doesn't require iTunes. You can import all types of ebook files, and export them as anything. I just used it today to change some html files to mobi, which I then uploaded to my Kindle.

But I agree that Calibre is a more versatile program.

I like all of that, too. Then I got a Kindle and wound up liking it even more. I've also got a waterproof case for it, and have read while swimming. As for being stolen, they'll be $99 by the holidays.

Excellent. I didn't know that and their website isn't that clear about it. i am going to give it a go.

Excellent tip!

I originally had a Nook (Barnes & Noble Reader) and was directed towards Calibre because I had a large collection of ebooks in various formats. As long as the ebook does not have DRM, Calibre will convert from just about any format to any other.
The reason I was not interested in a Kindle was the only way (perhaps this has changed with later versions) to get an ebook onto the device was to email it to Amazon and from what I have read their policy of what format they will accept - and that they did not work with non-DRM ebooks unless you could prove where you purchased it - was too restrictive. The Nook could have ebooks "side loaded" through your computer directly.
I now have an iPad and use iBooks and the Nook Reader. Still wish that B&N (and Amazon for that matter) would allow you to "side load" books to their readers through iTunes (like iBooks does and several other apps for magazines and books) as opposed to having to download them via the internet.

I did find the preview chapters to "Draculas" (thanks for the link) and was able to convert it to epub format. Did the same with the "expanded" version of "Serial" also. (Had the free initial release but never got around to reading it.)
