I am fairly new to the works of Dr. Wilson (and I love what I've read so far!). I've read the first three (?) Repairman Jack novels (I think it's three; the next one on the list is "All the Rage"), and some of the "Adversary" books, as well as "Sims." I am currently reading "The Barrens and Others." I read "Faces" this morning (and, for me, the good doctor succeeded in what he said he set out to do in the introduction). This is the second or third time that I've come across a mention of something happening to pregnant women in the town of Monroe in 1968 (and if my head weren't so stuffed up, I could maybe think of where the other mentions were). My question is: is an explanation offered somewhere as to what exactly happened (i.e. another book or story that I perhaps haven't read yet). Just curious.

Thank you.

Howdy, Eric--
Well, we thought we'd seen the last of Rasalom when Glaeken, the spiritual warrior, defeated him in THE TOMB. We were wrong. He was, uh, reborn, you might say, in Monroe in 1968, possessing the body of an infant boy. Things get grim, reaching an apocalyptic climax in NIGHTWORLD. If you're not faint-of-heart, you've got =lots= of good reading ahead of you.

You mean Glaeken defeated Rasalom in The Keep not The Tomb. Big Grin

Bluesman... for more information on what happened in Monroe in 1968 read Reborn which is the sequel to The Keep.

For the recounting of what happened in Monroe in 1968, read Reborn (Book 4 of 6 in the Adversary Cycle). Read the Chronology link and FAQ, though; some people are picky about the order of reading. I think that if you keep the Adversary books and the RJ books in order, you will be fine.

And WELCOME.

You have some great reading ahead of you. Besides the Adversary Cycle and Repairman Jack books, I recommend Black Wind and The Select. Those are among my faves

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. ... This must be part of Paul's new revised editions, eh Marc?

Thank you all for your replies! Turns out that I had read the first three ("The Keep," "The Tomb", and "The Touch"). Since it has been quite a while since I read "The Keep" and also some time since I have read the other two, I'll have to see if I can get my hands on all six and read (or reread, as the case may be) them in the order suggested by the chronology, and sprinkle in the RJ books that I have ("All the Rage," "Hosts," "Gateways"--I think--and "The Haunted Air"--I have the paperback on order) in the correct order as well.

Thank you all again!

You're right, of course, Marc. Misspoke meself there. REBORN is the only book of the Adversary Cycle I haven't read yet. I got REPRISAL a couple of weeks ago, and jeez...I couldn't put it down. Read it straight through and pulled the covers over my head when I finally went to sleep. Paul did himself proud on that one. I'd say it's right up there with THE KEEP.

Can't say anything bad about BLACK WIND--a masterpiece--or THE SELECT, but we don't want Eric to miss out on Paul's sf work either. Gotta mention DYDEETOWN WORLD and THE LANAGUE CHRONICLES too. And THE FIFTH HARMONIC.

Spoiler Alert!!!!
Yeah, ask fpw how he felt about writing the scene with the kid upstairs in the bedroom. It is freaky just thinking about it, let alone having to "live" through writing it.

(Am I talking about the right book? I get the events of the final 3 confused sometimes. I guess I have to read them again *sigh*)

I read Dydeetown world, and Healer, but not the others. Can't find them.
