This should be interesting - a remake of Red Dawn.

Looks like it will at least have a political update. Karen DeCoster posted some pics on LRC from the filming that is currently happening in downtown Detroit:

They're filming in Detroit, Pontiac and they also used the same house in 8 Mile to burn some more (apparently directors really hate that house). I was working in Pontiac during much of the filming and fortunately avoided all of it. Now I'm in Allen Park, down the street from the Lions training facility. There's supposed to be a film studio built in a refitted defunct assembly plant or something.

They passed an old woman who was just opening the door of a brown Cadillac. An old man was already sitting in the passenger seat. The car had a personalized plate with the letters “J-U-S-P-R-A-Y”.
“That stuff work?” Israel said to her.
“‘Scuse me?” the little old woman said, clutching her keys.
“The spray. Does it keep them away?”
“Keep who away?” She looked confused.
“I gotcha.” Israel gave her a conspiratorial wink.

It'll be cool going to a movie and seeing places I've actually been. I'm pretty certain those pics are near Cobo Hall (they should have used that thing; it's a wreck). It makes me think of Robocop 3 and that ONE scene that was actually shot somewhere on Grand River.

I gotta get in on some of this action. Hell, I'll be a pageboy.

Red Dawn, for me, was great because of the wilderness aspect of it. People surviving outside the enemy's encampment, in the wilderness, with weapons, is what attracted me to the film. It wasn't a great film, but I loved much of it.

I can't imagine the remake, being filmed in large cities, having the same qualities. Perhaps the cities will be in ruin, like in Zombieland. That would be cool.

I imagine they'll have a little of both of that. But perhaps in stead of the wilderness aspect they'll camp out in abandoned houses. We certainly have a lot of that in Detroit. The total area of abandoned housing in Detroit outspans all of Boston. I think we could have something like 2 Centrarl Parks.
