Sorry, I know it's short notice, but I only found out minutes ago myself. Anyway, if there are any UK-dwellers out there who are interested in watching The Keep, it's on tonight (Sunday) on the Scifi/Horror movie channel (Sky 307) at 10.45.
Enjoy! (Or perhaps not...)

"I handed in the new RJ novel with the
working title, BY THE SWORD. David says the sales force loved the title at the
pre Turkey-Day sales meeting, so that's what it will be. That means Paul Ramplin
gets a credit line in the acknowledgments.

I've never seen it. Was it really that pitiful =as a film=, or did it just Wink slash and stomp and gut and murder Paul's book?

It was terrible from start to finish. No redeeming qualities whatsoever (Other than Ian McKellan as Cuza). Rasalom was represented as a big hulking guy covered in some sort of black substance and looked like something from a Bugs Bunny cartoon. To top it off, they had Scott Glenn playing Glaeken. Say no more.
Bottom line: Michael Mann f**ked it up so bad that it is pretty much unrecognizable as far as the source material is concerned.

But oddly, some see it as a moody, atmospheric, and effective flick.

I guess they're not real Paulkitties or Paulcats.

Not sure if I'm a Paul kitty or Paul cat but I know a horrible movie when I see one. For example, Commando is, by all rights a bad/horrible movie but I've seen it 30 times.
Not quite sure how anyone could see the mess that was "The Keep" and come away with anything but confusion...

I liked it too. It was indeed the mood of the film that hypnotised me.Cool

Because of the movie....I sought out FPW's books. I'd call that a win situation.

I read the book first which is why I hated the movie so much. I have always considered The Keep my favorite book of the modern era (I had read a lot of Howard and Haggard before but The Keep got me into Lovecraft and I have never looked back) and the movie was so far off the mark it just never had a chance with me.
