Although there are plenty of bad movies from back then also.
Did you see the documetary on TCM on 1934 and all of the movies that were released that year? There were proabably 150 to 200 movies released that year and at least half were really 'terrific' movies ...

t4terrific Wrote:That WAS a heck of a year for movies! I have 10 of those films on dvd! (*)Another great movie from 1939 was THE FOUR FEATHERS, directed by Zoltan Korda, and starring John Clements, Ralph Richardson, C. Aubrey Smith, and June Duprez.
Some of the rest I've never seen. I must make more time for movies!! Hahaa!!
t4terrific Wrote:I think Die Hard may be the best action film of all time.Wellll...... there was The Empire Strikes back. But I can't argue with this. Die Hard most certainly ranks as the greatest "heist" movie of all time, with the twist that you don't realize it's a heist movie until halfway through. It also is probably the greatest "guy" movie ever. It not only has great action but great, INTELLIGENT writing and razor wit. It's only rival among "action/guy flicks" may be The Great Escape. Errrrr.... and Lawrence of Arabia, if you consider it an "action" movie as well as a biopic.
