2.The Godfather:An Amazing film every actor in it is amazing al pacino
and marlon brando are incredible
3.The Shawshank Redemption:Fantastic movie! Well acted, well plotted,
well filmed. Such a beauty to watch over and over.
4.Casablanca: Probably the greatest love story to ever hit the screen.
5.Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back:It was tough to choose, but in the
end...
Now talk about your opinion.

The Unforgiven (William's "heel turn" at the end still gives me chills. Lot's of terrific lines too.)
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (Simply magnificent. Tuco almost steals the show.)
Rear Window
Arsenic and Old Lace (This is what made Cary Grant so good.)
Taxi Driver (Sadly, I can relate, on some levels, to Travis)
Gangs of New York (Bill "The Butcher" is the greatest character ever caught on film)

Whoops! That's six. I'm such a nonconformist!Big Grin

I think a good movie is one that I couldn't imagine never being able to see again. I can watch these over and over.

Rear Window and Arsenic and Old Lace are 2 of my favorites .. Its not often that I hear of someone else who likes old movies.

I know this guy who refuses to watch any B&W movies. When I asked him why he said because they make movies in color now.

2) Matrix
3) Contact
4) Seven
5) Stigmata

(Runner up: The Keep)Wink

The first three are chiseled in granite for me...the other two change with my moods.

1. The Wizard Of Oz. I consider myself the Tin Man. It's also the best musical ever made.
2. Casablanca. The dialogue! The action! The intrigue! No other movie even comes close.
3. Citizen Kane. I love Orson Welles...he knew how to tell a story. The only problem was, he didn't tell enough of them, and spent the last half of his life coasting.
4. The Princess Bride. "Bye bye, boys! Have fun storming the castle!" "Am I going mad, or did the word THINK escape your lips?" One of the best sources of one liners I've ever heard.
5. The Day the Earth Stood Still (the original version with Michael Rennie). Still, in my opinion, the definitive science fiction movie.

Such a hard question, and the answer would change day to day depending on what sort of mood I'm in or what I've just seen that would pt the idea of another film in my head...

...right now though my top 5 would be:

  1. Die Hard
  2. Ronin
  3. The Thing
  4. The Usual Suspects
  5. JCVD
Even writing this, I can think of a million other films that should all be in my top 5, for different reasons.

Evil Dead 2
The Andromeda Strain
Heat
Blade Runner
The Changeling
oh forget it, I'll never be able to write down all the films I like, and I'll never be able to assemble a top 5 list. Wink

The day I learned to appreciate older movies was a turning point in my life.Big Grin

Imagine having 60 years worth of films suddenly opened up. I'm still finding old films (new to me) that are simply terrific.

Back when there was good writing Smile

Although there are plenty of bad movies from back then also.

Did you see the documetary on TCM on 1934 and all of the movies that were released that year? There were proabably 150 to 200 movies released that year and at least half were really 'terrific' movies ...
