Helro.

I met Mr. Wilson at the Stoker weekend 2009. I had to admit to him that I first heard of Repairman Jack a few months before and didn't know Jack has been around since 1985.

He told me the first RJ book is The Tomb, so I bought a copy from a vendor at the Stokers. It's a British edition, signed by somebody, but seemingly not by Mr. Wilson. Perhaps the cover artist, but I can't find his name in the book.

I found out on this site that I am reading the not-so-preferred version with all the 1980's references. What the heck, I'm old enough to remember when Times Square was Times Square.

I'll be curious if the upcoming movie carries through with Jack not having a social security number or other legal existence. It's very important for the character, but large corporations that make movies may not want to offer a role model who goes against the current trend towards total tracking of everyone all the time.

Well, I have to go finish the book.

What do you know about the upcoming movie? You make it sound like it's coming up. Don't mean to rain on the parade. I'd like to believe the movie will be made someday.

As Wap would say, Welcome Robin. You'll like it here.

And I gotta ask, can you make out what the signature says? I'd like to know who's signing the Man's books.

PS- I don't know if it was a typo or not but I find 'Helro' unusually funny.

Nothing definite on the movie. He said the studio wanted to see how "The Proposal" does at the box office because it has the actor they want for Jack.

I'll have to show the signature in the book to Mr. Wilson if I ever meet him again. It looks like "Boyle" or "Goyle" to me.

"Helro" was just a bit of silliness.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the original "version."

A mention of Aunt Nellie watching Johnny Carson was removed, and the silenced handgun Jack uses was changed from a Ruger Security Six .357 Magnum to a Glock, but that's about all.

It's still a great story.

Welcome!

Helro back, and Weckome.

So, you only heard of Repairman Jack a few months ago and have already met FPW? I have still not met him in person after declaring him my favorite author six years ago.

Robin will like it here.

It is nice to know that, in my absence, others take up the baton...although I sometimes wonder if we are the Board's e-equivalent of a Walmart greeter.

Heh.

I just re-read the "author's definitive edition" paperback and compared to the original PB (which I also own), I recall that all Jack's movie-watching equipment got an update as well.

Axioms Jack seems to live by (inadvertantly or not):

Why he does what he does: "I chose this life. I know what I'm doing. And on any given day, I could stop doing it. Today, however, isn't that day. And tomorrow won't be either." Bruce Wayne, Identity Crisis

On Rasalom: "Water's wet, the sky is blue...and good old Satan Claus, Jimmy...he's out there...and he's just gettin' stronger." Joe Hallenbeck, The Last Boyscout

I think we're a step above Wal-Mart greeters and a step below Cost-Co greeters from Idiocracy.

I'd like to welcome you, but we don't do 'silly' here. This is serious business we take seriously and if you think I'm kidding, you'll find I'm as serious as a heart attack. So seriously, perhaps you'd like to try something a bit more formal next time. I hope you understand the seriousness of the situation.

The Right Honorable Mr. Scott Miller, Esq.,

Dearest Sir,

Got it.

Yours seriously and with formality,
