Some of the grown-up movies from my Netflix queue (167 right now) that maybe would interest you:

Donnie Darko
Bourne Identity and Supremacy
Madhouse
Toolbox Murders
Shaun of the Dead
Heat
12 Angry Men
Romance
Secretary
Jacob's Ladder
What the #$*! Do We Know!?

And I have several TV shows waiting, too. I don't watch much TV, so I am watching whole seasons at once and really liking commercial-free television!

24
Alias
Penn & Teller's Bullsh!t
Millenium
Family Business
Sex and the City

I think the most obsure disc I've rented thru Netflix so far was "Metropolis" - a 1927 German silent film about the world in the year 2026. LOL!!!

I thought that it was terrible.

Both great choices. BTW, the #$*! is Bleep if you are looking for it.

Amen to that, it is the only way I can watch TV anymore.

I love that show and I'm not much of a P & T fan. A few other TV shows that I've enjoyed are Six Feet Under, Nip/Tuck, Sopranos, Arrested Development, and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

A great film by Fritz Lang. There is an anime version that is worth checking out as well.

And welcome or is it welcome back?

Hey Scott,

It's "welcome"... I'm new here. I posted an intro on the main forum. Big Grin

Nip/Tuck is a good recommendation too, I'd forgotten about that one. I've never seen it, but I hear such fuss over it! Adding it to queue right now. Thanks!!

Welcome to the board, Brazen.

I've got 309 flicks in my Netflix queue. Wonder if I'll live long enough to see 'em all.

Metropolis is a wonderful classic. I'm always surprised when someone refers to it as obscure. Fritz Lang obscure? But then, it is a silent film made nearly 80 (!) years ago.

I'm up to 395. Big Grin

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. ... The piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

"Flesh and Bone" is a fine film I first saw when it came out in 1993. I liked it then and I like now. I saw it again tonight, and I recommend it.

It stars Dennis Quaid, Meg Ryan, James Caan, and Gwyneth Paltrow. The opening sequence blew me away, again. 12 minutes without much dialogue, and it packs a punch.

The actors give solid performances, though James Caan annoys me more often than not. But that's just James Caan, not the movie or the director.

I don't want to say much about the film. It's not a horror film, which is what the title might make you think. It's about family ties, the kind that bind .... and gag.

I own the uncut French version of this. One of my all-time favorite films.

I haven't seen The Keep since 1984/85? and I remember liking it. I'll need to rent it again as an adult to see if its as bad as you've described. If it turns out to be bad, I still think that the concept of unearthing a demon during time of war gave war stories a great new twist.

I actually saw Gabriel Byrne once in person (Mjr. Kaempffer). It was at a downtown movie theater know as 'Paramount' (I'm sure Shadowlord will know the place) when we we buying tickets for a matinee & he came walking in with his family. He could tell that I recognized him & I could tell he wasn't in the mood to 'deal with a fan' so I did the polite thing & left him alone. I never intended to bother the man anyway.

If I could recommend a classic for your Netflix - The Secret War of Harry Frigg or even The Odd Couple. Both were very funny.

Definitely! I love that character in Harry Frigg who's trying to speak English . . . "possibly!"

And Lemon and Mathau were perfect!

Just saw "Heavenly Creatures," which I saw in the theater when it was released in 1994. Terrific movie directed by LOTR's Peter Jackson and introducing Melanie Lynskey (now co-starring in the sitcom "Two and a Half Men") and Kate Winslet. The former is particularly good.

Set in New Zealand, it's based on a true story about two young passionate, fanciful girls who like each other in a very special way and what the intensity of their friendship leads to. Do check it out.

Suspect Zero

Rented it on DVD and watched it last night. My wife and I both enjoyed. Suspense, serial killers, distant viewing, violations of suspects' civil rights, illegal searches, Ben Kingsley, Carrie-Ann Moss for eye candy. What's not to like? Sort of reminded me of a cross between X-Files and Millennium, two TV shows I miss. I give it three thumbs up.
