Was this brought up already in Conspiracies, or is this a possible way that Tesla may have more involvment with the Otherness?

"The Philadelphia Experiment was an alleged naval military experiment at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, sometime around October 28, 1943, in which the U.S. destroyer escort USS Eldridge was to be rendered invisible (i.e. a cloaking device) to human observers for a brief period.

According to the theory proponents, a destroyer escort, the USS Eldridge, was fitted with the required equipment at the naval yards in Philadelphia. Testing began in summer 1943, and was successful to a limited degree. One test, on July 22, resulted in the Eldridge being rendered almost completely invisible, with some witnesses reporting a “greenish fog” in its place. However, crew members complained of severe nausea afterwards. At that point, the experiment was altered at the request of the Navy, with the new objective being invisibility solely to radar. None of this has been substantiated.

The theory continues that the equipment was not properly re-calibrated, but in spite of this the experiment was performed again on October 28. This time, Eldridge not only became entirely invisible, but actually vanished from the area in a flash of blue light. According to some accounts, the U.S. naval base at Norfolk, Virginia, just over 215 miles (346 km) away, reported sighting the Eldridge offshore, whereupon the Eldridge vanished from their sight and reappeared in Philadelphia at the site it had originally occupied, in an apparent case of accidental teleportation.

Also, shortly before his death in 1943, Nikola Tesla claimed to have completed a Unified Field Theory; however, it was never published. Relatives of Nikola Tesla propose that much of Tesla's research papers were seized by the FBI promptly following his death, and highlight the apparent coincidence between the year of his death and the supposed date of the Philadelphia Experiment."

I remember the movie as well. When the ship re-appeared, the decks were all mis-shapen with several "burned" crewmen all about. I remember one poor soul melted halfway into the decking....shiver....

I watched the film lots when I was a little boy, and remember it very fondly. I am slightly reluctant to watch it again as a grown up as this usually results in me seeing how bad it actually was and ruining all my childhood memories --- like I did a few years ago when I rewatched Big Trouble in Little China. Sad

It's ok I suppose, but I mean that when I watched it when I was a kid I got a lot more out of it. It was one of my favourite films and I watched it a good many times.

When I watched it again, it all looked a little cheap and rubbish. Confusedquigglemouth: You have to admit, it's a little bit cheesey....no?

I always thought that was the point, that it was intended to be a B-Movie.

Axioms Jack seems to live by (inadvertantly or not):

Why he does what he does: "I chose this life. I know what I'm doing. And on any given day, I could stop doing it. Today, however, isn't that day. And tomorrow won't be either." Bruce Wayne, Identity Crisis

On Rasalom: "Water's wet, the sky is blue...and good old Satan Claus, Jimmy...he's out there...and he's just gettin' stronger." Joe Hallenbeck, The Last Boyscout

Absolutley, but I didnt have the intertextual experience of American B-Movies when I was 10-12 years old (we only had 4 TV channels back then, and so that sort of thing was never on) so when I watched it as a kid I took it as a straight/serious movie and loved it.

When I watched it as an adult I realised it was a pastiche of rubbishy B-Movies and saw all the naff/camp humour whereas I once only saw epic heroics. Sad

Still an enjoyable flick, but I wish I had never re-watched it. Confusedquigglemouth:

That's why I dont want to re-watch The Philapdephia Experiment. I remember it having a really interesting storyline, and being really sad and dramatic, and I vaguely remembering a real sense of dread/threat during the ending sequence... I don't want to re-watch it now I'm grown up and capable of critical thinking and realise the story is daft and the acting atrocious Confusedmilewinkgrin:
