[Correction on poll question...the rest of the Poll question should read: ...the chances that Beacon/Relativity can land a director for Morgan's Repairman Jack script?]
So, Chris Morgan (screenwriter) and Relativity Media (production company), both of the perennially un-announced Repairman Jack movie, appear to have yet another hit on their hands...in 2008 it was Wanted, this year it's Fast and Furious...the sequel to the 2001 street racing, gear-fest.
The new Fast and Furious has 7 out of 10 stars on IMDB after one week of release.
It also notched the biggest ever April debut-weekend @ $71,000,000. That amount, BTW is more than FF: Tokyo Drift (another Chris Morgan & Relativity project) took in during its entire box-office run.
It even beat the Bourne Ultimatum's opening weekend.
As of Friday's box-office, the film has already taken in over $100 million, more than recovering its budget of $85,000,000.00. And, with a weak list of premiering movies this weekend, by the end of its second weekend, Fast and Furious could-out earn the entire box office take of the original film.
What other movies are "as good" as the new Fast and Furious? The following movies are all rated as good or (slightly) worse, out of ten, on IMDB: Quantum of Solace, The International, Eagle Eye, Wanted, Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull , 48 Hours, A Knight's Tale, Backdraft, Bad Boys, Batman Returns (with Pfeiffer as Catwoman), Blade and Blade2, Bon Cop Bad Cop, Conan the Barbarian, Death Race (with Statham), Conspiracy Theory, Constantine, Desperado, Die Hard and Die Hard2, Ghostbusters, Hellboy, High Fidelity, Hostel, I Robot, Independence Day, Jurassic Park, Lethal Weapon2 and Lethal Weapon3, Men In Black, Mission Impossible and Mission Impossible III, Natural Born Killers, National Treasure and National Treasure2, Passchendaele, Payback, Pirates of the Caribbean and Pirates of the Caribbean3, Pitch Black, Point Break, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Rocky, Romancing the Stone, Shoot 'em Up, Silverado, Smokin' Aces, Sneakers, Stakeout, Stargate, Starship Troopers, Superman2 and Superman Returns, The Brave One, Hitman, The Italian Job (with Wahlberg), The Last Boyscout, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Mask of Zorro, Matrix Reloaded, The Mummy (with Fraser), The Recruit, The Tomas Crown Affair (with Brosnan), The Transporter, They Live, Top Gun, Ultraviolet, Underworld, Underworld2 and Underworld3, Vantage Point, or Zero Effect.
[catches breath]
So, while it's not Lord of the Rings, A New Hope, or even Iron Man, as far as action movies go, it's got some legs (wheels?).
The real question is, now that Chris Morgan is hotter than ever, is he hot enough to enable Relativity/Beacon to FINALLY get a director for his Repairman Jack script?

Axioms Jack seems to live by (inadvertantly or not):
Why he does what he does: "I chose this life. I know what I'm doing. And on any given day, I could stop doing it. Today, however, isn't that day. And tomorrow won't be either." Bruce Wayne, Identity Crisis
On Rasalom: "Water's wet, the sky is blue...and good old Satan Claus, Jimmy...he's out there...and he's just gettin' stronger." Joe Hallenbeck, The Last Boyscout
