For being the 80th Annual Academy Awards, I personally felt last night's Oscars were kind of "average." Granted, there were a bunch of rewarding turnouts (Tilda Swinton), a bunch of welcome surprises (
The Bourne Ultimatum is now a
three-time Academy Award-winner!), a few areas of disappointment (not ONE of the songs from
Enchanted won...bugh), and at least one Inevitable Win That I Didn't Want (Daniel Day-Lewis...I'm sorry, but Viggo Mortensen was
so damn unique!). However, just a few things that kind of irked me about the overall show...
- The writing/skit qualities were MAJORLY varied (I got very bored with the Halle Berre/Seth Rogan/Jonah Hill jokes, very fast)
- Amy Adams performed only ONE of the two songs she sang from Enchanted (I'm sorry, but that operetta rendition of "That's How You Know" not only butchered the song, but showed how much Amy was needed to give it its, well, magic!)
- And if this was a numbered list, this would be the absolute number one: NOT A SINGLE MENTION OF ROY SCHEIDER (R.I.P.)! I'm most disappointed. Not once during the memorial list was he mentioned, and even more insultingly, after the commercial break, Amy Adams's presentation of the Best Music award started with the theme from JAWS! How insulting to the man's memory!
So, overall, this was not quite the 80th anniversary of the Oscars that
I was expecting...did anyone else had "problems" with it?
