First let me say congratulations to Nijimeijer for winning the trivia contest! His essay question was also excellent, so he gets an honorable mention.
Thank you to everyone that participated. You guys provided us with some great essays, which made judging difficult. We purposefully kept the “prize” a secret because we knew we would be overwhelmed with e-mails and PMs if we revealed it. This way only the die-hard RJ fans submitted entries.
Confession time. We didn’t judge the essays by how well written they were, we judged them on content. To explain, let me give you a little background on the prize.
A few weeks ago FPW approached The Queens about a Repairman Jack product line. The products are: two different kinds of t-shirts, a baseball cap, a bumper sticker, a journal and even a thong. But that’s not all…
We’re creating two designs. One is a logo for the items above (you’ll see preliminary designs in another post) and the other piece is a bigger, more creative artwork for a 16 x 20 Repairman Jack poster. The first RJ poster ever!
With seven Repairman Jack novels so far, it was hard to narrow down what to include on the poster. That’s why we came up with the essay contest idea. The poster will include several things, but in the center it will feature the quintessential Repairman Jack scene from one of the novels; a scene taken from the winning essay.
So without further ado, the winner of the essay is...A TIE!!! Ken Valentine submitted his essay first: short and sweet and to the point. Then Edward (Matt Haselton) submitted an essay on the same scene but expounded on it. So we couldn't choose just one winner. Congratulations to you both.
The scene is Jack's fight with Kusum with a flamethrower from The Tomb. I'll post all the essays in another post.
Ken and Edward, your scene will be included in the first ever Repairman Jack poster blessed by The Man himself. But that’s not all you get…. Sorry, it’s not a year’s supply of Turtle Wax. In the poster there is a wall of graffiti. Your names will be spray painted on that wall.
Pretty cool, huh?
The poster isn’t finished yet. I’m about halfway through. Nobody has seen it (not even Paul). I expect to work on it for at least another week or two.
I may need help finding some visual items to include in the poster. Flamethrower, anyone? Details later.
As soon as the poster is finished, we will place the products up on Café Press (we’ll have a link on this site).
Happy reading!
Susan
