The other night, I read in an old Entertainment Weekly magazine that the live action film of Speed Racer will be released in May of 2008...has anyone else heard or seen anything about this?

I for one sure as hell hope that this is not true; not because I like Speed Racer, in fact, I could never stand it, but what I'm waiting for is the release of the live action Jonny Quest movie.

I've been waiting for a live action Jonny Quest movie for a long long time now and imdb has a 2010 release listed for it, but I do not know if it is the live action movie simply because I refuse to pay for the "gold" edition or whatever it is of imdb.

So anyways, I'm afraid if Speed Racer bombs that Jonny Quest, a cartoon that can be transferred to the live screen better then Speed Racer, will never be released!!

Death to Speed Racer and long live Jonny Quest!!

I saw the trailer for it last week and meant to post it. I LOOOOVED Speed Racer as a kid. It looks exactly like the cartoon and I for one can not wait to see it.

It looks visually impressive, the Wachoski Brothers can be hit or miss so I will hold any opinion until I see it in the theater...hopefully on an IMAX screen.

I just couldn't ever get into it, just my personal preference I guess.

I thought the animation was horrible, the stories were weak, and that annoying monkey I thought was absolutely appalling.

Believe me, I tried to "like" it, but I just couldn't. I thought that what had been done in Jonny Quest as far as the stop-motion animation, storylines, character development was so much better.

Note: The only reason I compare the two is because they are from similar time periods and I've seen both shows lumped together in numerous forums and outlets when talk of another live-action film based off a cartoon emerges.

I mean honestly, to each his own, but I fear this Speed Racer movie will not do as well as the fans hope (the pictures I saw looked way too "Thunderbirds live action" and just...campy, but I have yet to see the trailer) and I fear it will ruin the Jonny Quest film that is supposedly in the works and stop its production if Speed Racer bombs.

Hmm......okay.

By the way, I've never seen Johnny Quest before. Sounds good from your praise.

Well, that monkey's name was Mauricio, so I am not surprised you shied away from this series. Rolleyes
