John Goodman as "Bones" Darley, Black Market gun dealer, from the movie Death Sentence, released last year. The evidence for Goodman is becoming overwhelming...but can he do the Jewish accent? I know he does a mean John Wayne, so odds are good he could nail the voice.

Despite all the bad reviews I've heard about Death Sentence, this picture, alone, is enough to make me watch it, now.

Quote from Death Sentence:
Bones Darly: [after displaying guns for Nick] "Any one of these is bound to make you feel better about what's bothering you."

...and a few more: http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0013720/quotes

Goodman does look like a good Abe, but I can't rememeber any of accents so I can't say whether or not I think he could pull off the accent.

I remember he did well in (IIRC) Coyote Ugly. It has been awhile since I watched that movie though.....

I've seen Death Sentence and I'll agree with the bad reviews you've read. And Goodman was nothing like Abe in this flick. He was a heartless bastard.

"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it." - Agent K

I guess he did a good job portraying one, then.

He played a saint (or sap, depending on your POV) for years as Rosanne's TV husband.

Between those two extremes, he could probably come up with a convincing Abe.

If I had to choose, though, I'd lean towards Williams for Abe. He doesn't look at all like an illegal arms dealer, just a cranky old sporting goods salesman...so when he rolls out his bazookas and flamethrowers, it would be even spookier.

...Was just surfing IMDB and ran across Robbie Coltrane. He has the build for Abe and is the right age...I wonder if he could pull off the accent?

He began as a comic, just as did Williams, so he would have the dry sense of humor necessary for the part. When he began acting, he was a fan of Orson Welles, so he may take to the subject matter.

Harry Potter is drawing to a close and Hagrid will be needing a new series to attach himself to, for the next decade.

Hmmm.

As you say, "if he could pull off the accent."

Abe is 5'8" and around fifty years old, and Coltraine is 6'1" and turned fifty eight just yesterday (March 30), but that shouldn't really be a problem in a movie.

Excellent choice!

Let's make it a wretched French "art" film. Whoever plays Jack, plays =everybody.=
