[SIZE="3"]Saw it yesterday. Loved the cinematography, loved the acting, loved the story...until the non end. I haven't read much of the rest of this thread, but I got a feeling a lot of metaphors were going down in this flick, all fine and good, but I needed a final confrontation, some closure, some frikkin CATHARSIS, mofo, and I didn't get it.

I have to disagree. It did have an ending, .... but it was up to the viewer to figure out what that ending meant to him (or her, not to offend Maggers); it didn't spell it out and tell the viewer directly. The entire film was loaded with metaphor and allegory. I'm not always good at picking up on all of them, but that's what makes a movie interesting and worthy of rewatching (rewatching movies being something I enjoy, but I am guessing that you may not).

I finally saw this movie yesterday. Loved it. Lots of really tense moments. Like others I was caught off guard by the ending. I looked down at my phone to see what time it was (maybe five seconds) I look up and see credits. Jeez... I tune out for five seconds and missed the ending! Agh! I do have to go back and analyze the film a bit more because I'm sure there's a lot I missed in the subtext.

In Japan, today was the opening day of "No Country for Old Men". Japanese title is "No Country", btw.

But now, if somebody asked me "What's your favorite Coen Brother's movie?", I would say, "Of course, it's No Country for Old Men!"

Yes it is. I think No Country for Old Men is Coen Brothers's best film ever.

All actors were great. Especially, Javier Bardem! He's scary! I couldn't forecast his moves. I can't forget coin toss scenes. Awesome!

But my favorite scene was Llewelyn waiting for Anton in dark motel's room. It reminded me of Blood Simple.

Yeah, he definately killed her. When he comes out of her house, he checks the bottom of his boots for blood and makes sure to cover his tracks as best as possible after the car accident. He definately appeared very nervous about cops showing up.

Good point! It does make a sense.

Just saw this film, finally. Wow! Every award it won was well deserved and then some. It was amazing on so many levels, most of which have been covered in this thread already. There is one big point of disagreement in the Webby household though...

What happened to the money at the end - who got it?

I say Chigurh found it in the motel room vent just before Ed Bell showed up. He snuck out of the room while Bell was having a look in the bathroom. He went on to kill Carla Jean because he said he would - not because he was still looking for the money.

My hubby says Ed Bell figured out about the money being hidden in the vents when he saw the stuff on the floor in the motel room. He took the money and that's why he retired so quick and why he was having strange dreams (guilty feelings). He says Chigurh killed Carla Jean because he was still trying to track down the money.

MM says the Mexicans took it when they killed Llewelyn.

PS: I read a bunch of the stuff on the link Jimbow posted in this thread and I thought most of it was overanalyzed bs. I liked the post at the beginning of it, but a lot of the reply posts were just silly.

Llewellyn probablly hid it in there and the Mexicans missed it when they offed him. Also he paid the kid for his shirt with a $100 bill. And Swammi's right about killing the wife. He did that for sure too.

I agree 100%. Anton got the money. The sheriff (TLJ) figured out that Anton was/had been in the room because of the screw or the vent on the floor. I think he was glad to get out of the room alive, given what he knew of Anton.

The sheriff got out of Dodge because the world was becoming a place in which he could no longer function as he had. Evil was taking a new, more menacing, implacable face, with Anton as its poster boy, and he knew this would be a war he could never win. I think he felt guilty about leaving because it was ingrained in him, from his daddy and his wife's uncle (the old sheriff in the wheelchair) that you don't run from trouble. But this new evil was not something you could fight and win.

I read the book, too.

Finally, someone has the guts to say, "The emperor has no clothes." I think there's been a lot of deep analysis of this flick by Coen fans (me included), but when it's said out loud, yeah, that was one weird place to stop (not "end") a movie. It was the type of movie that could be reviewed in Fangoria as well as the New York Times.

Exactly what I said in another bulletin board. Fat ugly naked emperor. Had a dinner date recently and we rented this for afterwards. Now I'm a fairly smart chicka, and he's one of the brightest men I know and both of us were sitting there on the couch at the end of this monstrosity shaking our heads and saying WTH? Did you get it? I didn't get it. Is it over? Huh?
