No Country for Old Men - Maggers - 11-12-2007 Go see NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. Notice to all Texans on the board, go see this movie. I had no idea what to expect. I hadn't read the book, nor had I read any reviews. The Coen brothers have done it again. They've adapted a good, solid, moving screenplay . They've created a thriller with more humanity than I'm used to from them, and more inhumanity, too, in the character played by Javier Bardem. Everyone is terrific. Bardem and Josh Brolin are outstanding. I've seen a lot of Josh Brolin lately...IN THE VALLEY OF ELAH, AMERICAN GANGSTER, and now NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. Even more interesting is the remarkable Tommy Lee Jones, who with just a wiggle of his eyebrows and slight wrinking of his brow can project more than nearly any actor on screen today. The countryside played a big role, too. Its hardscrabble and vast dun colored vistas are as intimidating as Bardem's psychopathology. I want to see NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN again. It's rich enough for a second viewing. A warning: read this thread carefully as you may find out more than you want to about NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. You may encounter unexpected spoilers. No Country for Old Men - ccosborne3 - 11-13-2007 Will do! It's not playing in any theatres near me in its limited engagement but as soon as it opens nationally, I'm there. ![]() No Country for Old Men - Kenji - 11-13-2007 Maybe next year....sure, I'll go to see this! No Country for Old Men - saynomore - 11-21-2007 SPOILERS, GREAT BIG ONES AHEAD: Proceed with caution. (S.S. Only smart people will understand how it's a spoiler, so pat yourself on the back if you figured out the ending based on my post--all others: BEWARE!). I saw this in limited release because I love the Coen Bros. The movie blows away cliches, linear plots, and violence as story device. At first glance the ending may throw you off, but there was no where else the movie could go. Evil wins. Period. Goodness surrenders. Even fate can't change the ending. Evil survives and pushes on. I can't wait for this to come out on dvd in the special edition package. See it more than once. AC No Country for Old Men - bones weep tedium - 11-21-2007 I've never even heard of this film before, and had no idea that the Coen brothers were up to anything at the moment either . . . will keep my eye out for this one! Saynomore, your spoiler wasn't a little one. I had no idea where the movie was going, and if I'd read your post before I saw the film, I'd have been mighty upset. You gave away the ending. That's what sucks about limited releases. If it had been released nationally 2 weeks ago this wouldn't have been an issue. No Country for Old Men - Maggers - 11-21-2007 Rats, CC, I'm sorry the movie has been spoiled for you, but go see it anyway. It's terrific. I read your thread knowing that YOU wouldn't post a spoiler (at least without notice). May I suggest that you post a similar warning in Post #1, ABOVE the spoiler as well as in this one below the spoiler. |
