I think this is my second or third pick at this old topic....
I agree with many of the names already mentioned as being suitable..and will throw out another one..

Kevin McKidd
Scottish actor (ok may have to work on that New York Accent a bit) but he played in Kingdom of Heaven and the series Rome as Lucius Vorenus...
One of the things this guy can pull off is the silent strong character -- I remember a scene in Rome where he tells this scumbag that he has 3 seconds to stop talking -- the guy didnt stop and poof sword in the throat...went from calm to shocking violence same as RJ has the ability to.

He also has those type of eyes that can war you Dont cross my line -- once again another RJ character trait.

And don't forget the best werewolf movie to come out in recent memory, Dog Soldiers. I though McKidd was very good in that, not near as funny as Spoon in the movie but still really good.

Agreed. Good movie.

One thing to keep in mind:

Whatever studio makes the Repairman Jack film is going to be interested in a franchise. They won't just want one movie. They're going to want lots of movies, so that means they're going to be looking at an actor who isn't going to be pushing 60 by the time they get to he fifth or sixth film.

Honestly, a lot of the names I've seen mentioned in the thread so far are just too old. And some are too pretty. I hope it isn't any of the WB himbos. Remember that Jack is supposed to be very average-looking.

I hope it's some unknown guy who is perfect for the role.

Someone mentioned Burt Young for Abe. I love Burt Young. He can do funny and scary and dramatic all very well. But he's always struck me as very Italian, while Abe is very obviously Jewish.

I love Fyvush Finkel, but I can't see him as Abe.

Judd Hirsch might pull it off if he put on weight. A lot of weight.

I dunno 'bout Fyvush Finkel, but I think Judd Hirsch is good for Abe. Or......John Goodman.
