I'm new so I wanted to say hello and hopefully I'll be getting to know everybody. I'm looking forward to conversing with other Jack-O-Phobes.

Welcome, Fenian. This is a fun place to hang out.

You'll find a gazillion Jack-O-Philes, but you won't find Jack-O-Phobes here. A "-phobe" is someone who fears or is averse to a specific thing, for instance a xenophobe. We are not Jack-averse. We love, love, love our Repairman Jack.

Years ago my mother used to say to me... "In this world, Elwood, you can be oh so smart or oh so pleasant."
Well, for years I was smart.
I recommend pleasant.

I'm sure we'll have lots of fun, but you might want to leave the chainsaw at home. Big Grin

Well, I dunno Maggers, there's a lot about Jack to be "phobing" about. I sure wouldn't want him pissed off at me.

Biggles: "Whew! I can't believe we're stuck in Chicago, at 2:00 a.m., and I was able to get the last delivery of pizza in a 300 mile radius! Do you mind if I take the last piece of this fantastic sausage, mushroom, pepper and anchovy pizza, even though I've only been sitting on my fat middle-aged (OK, that's an understatement) ass all day while you've been killing Rakoshi, dueling with the forces of the Otherness, and figuring out how you'll get a passport to take Gia on your honeymoon without an identity?"

RJ: "Not at all, Biggles! Excuse me while I get up to take care of business. By the way, pay no attention to the sharp sensation you feel between your fourth and fifth ribs. It's only heartburn. And it won't last but a minute."

Hmmm. In that scenario I'd say: "Be afraid. Be very afraid." Wink

Beware, Biggles, you're beginning to look and sound like Bluesman, and that's no compliment. Beware, too, for seldom does anyone correct my corrections. Ask Lisa. I'm nearly never wrong. (Oh, how obnoxious does that sound!) Wink

Welcome, Fenian!

"As we gather in the chapel here in Old Kilmainham Jail
I think about these past few days, oh will they say we've failed
From our schooldays they have told us we must yearn for liberty
Yet all I want in this dark place is to have you here with me

Chorus:
Oh Grace just hold me in your arms and let this moment linger,
They take me out at dawn and I will die
With all my love I place this wedding ring upon your finger
There won't be time to share our love for we must say goodbye

Now I know it's hard for you my love to ever understand
the love I bear for these brave men, my love for this dear land
But when Padhraic called me to his side down in the GPO
I had to leave my own sick bed, to him I had to go

Chorus

Now as the dawn is breaking, my heart is breaking too
On this May morn as I walk out my thoughts will be of you
And I'll write some words upon the wall so everyone wlll know
I love so much that I could see his blood upon the rose"

Chorus

"A nation once again,
A nation once again,
And, Ireland a province be
A nation once again!"

Up the Republic!

Then out spoke brave Horatius, the Captain of the Gate: "To every man upon this earth, death cometh soon or late; And how can man die better than facing fearful odds, For the ashes of his fathers, and the temples of his Gods,"
"Well, John Henry said to the Cap'n, "A man ain't nuthin' but a man. But, before I let that steam drill beat me, gonna die with my hammer in my hand, Lawd, Lawd, gonna die with my hammer in my hand."
