Welcome to the board, Tim and Matthew. Don't worry, if you keep posting regularly, we will soon forget that you are newbies and give you as much crap as the regulars. Of course, in order to be fully accepted into the inner circle you need to attend a G.U. (Orlando 2005).

I could probably write an entire book on the subject if someone else hadn't already beaten me to it. I can't remember the guy's name, but the book was called "Understanding Japanese Comics" or something like that. It was his doctorate thesis. I've got it in a moving box somewhere. I'll unpack it one of these days.
My not-book-length opinion is that it's a simple, clear art style that is easy to understand. I think the biggest appeal is that it's something new and different to most readers who are bored with the look of traditional American comic book art. There's more to it than that, but that's the quick version.
Can I have my doctorate now?

He would have to change his form of business from repairman to car towing, though. Thus the new and improved Towman Jack.

Matthew Smith Wrote:"Manga! Manga!" is EXACTLY the one I was thinking of. I'm sure it's in the same moving box as "Understanding Comics". I'll dig them out some day.
