Well, after lurking around the old forum and being too confused by the layout to post anything relevant, I have finally decided to... uh... do just that.
Seeing as there is no 'newbie-friendly' introduction board here (when was the last time the Repairman Jack forums had any lasting new members, by the way?), and newbies tend to disturb the Natural Order of the Universe, I'll just pop right in...
Possibly I have no life, but I was very curious to see if anyone had DARED attempted to render Jack as anything other than a black silhouette (as depicted on some of the covers of RJ). In other words, had anyone drawn any fanart of him?
I have no idea if any of you have seen this already, but oh well...

I'm a newbie too and intend to disturb The Natural Order of the Universe until I am accepted (hopefully).
I'm trying to keep an open mind (really!) but why is this type of art so popular? It reminds me of the Smurfs. Elucidate and educate me, someone?

If you're talking about the Manga/Anime style...well, how much time do you have? I could probably write an entire book on the subject if someone else hadn't already beaten me to it. I can't remember the guy's name, but the book was called "Understanding Japanese Comics" or something like that. It was his doctorate thesis. I've got it in a moving box somewhere. I'll unpack it one of these days.
My not-book-length opinion is that it's a simple, clear art style that is easy to understand. I think the biggest appeal is that it's something new and different to most readers who are bored with the look of traditional American comic book art. There's more to it than that, but that's the quick version.
Can I have my doctorate now?
