This film looks like it could be pretty good, looks like the same sort of dinosar-sounding shape-less face-less monster that he had in LOST.
I didn't realize that Regarding Henry was a JJ Abrams movie. Excellent movie.

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. ... ...war came, no longer from the elemental nor from the star's rain of fire. The world was again remade, and the glow was as the coming of the sun upon the Earth. The children of the gods were again too few, scattered and divided and among them walked the ancients and those whose thoughts were not as to the towers and the marvels, but to the End and the destruction of the Earth and to the fires from which nothing could escape.

Stupid question alert: Is anyone in here familiar with Lovecraft/C'Thulu? stuff? Is this anything to do with this? The reference to the Ancients makes me think maybe. . .

there is a blog ethanhaaswaswrong.blogspot.com but don't bother looking at it . . . unless you can read arabic. Rolleyes
I haven't read any HPL in a while, but I remember more reference to "Old Ones" rather than "Ancients," and I don't recall use of phrases like "star's rain of fire" and destruction of the earth (though I could be wrong)

It seems there is a LOT of hype and speculation regarding this movie. Cthulhu has been mentioned as a possibility. Lovecraft and other writers in the genre have used "Ancient Ones" in allusion to the "Old Ones" or other creatures from the "Mythos".
The Ethan Haas sites apparently have nothing to do with the 1-18-08 movie, at least according to J.J. Abrams himself.
From what I've been able to gather (and one can spend a LOT of time on this) it is NOT Godzilla because Paramount doesn't own the rights to use it. It could be Cthulhu (or some other "Mythos" creature presumable) but with the movie CTHULHU coming out later this year that seems unlikely (BUT the movie just mentioned seems to be more of a psychological horror piece rather than a "monster" movie). I've also heard it is a movie version of Voltron, Ultra-man, and others, including Godzilla-like or Godzilla related monsters. Last but not least is a Revelations/End of the World story. I would love to know more about this movie but there seems to be NO solid information to be had.

Now that's a marketing opportunity, if true.

A movie with enough pull to show a trailer or sneak preview six months before it debuts, but does not reveal the movie name in the preview. A totally independent individual could create something strange and viral with linkbait and tell everyone it is related to the movie...

...see what happens. See if an opportunity arises to promote something of your own.

I don't remember a monster/creature in the trailer. It seemed more like a disaster flick.

No monster can be seen of course but there is the roar of something which sounds big and organic, as well as the man running in the street who says "I saw it! It's alive and it's huge!" or something to that effect.

This could really work out for anyone with skill that's for sure. The real sad thing in all of this is that the movie itself will never live up to the hype. Of couse I hope I'm wrong. Of course J.J. Abrams may be lying when he says that Ethan Haas sites are unrelated, or any other for that matter. And what of Slusho? Incredible buzz, similar to Blair Witch, but I was able to debunk (to my own satisfaction) the whole BW thing well before the movie came out.

BTW, i looked up "Cthulu" on imdb, and listed in the credits is Tori Spelling as a star. Which leads me to believe it is either a) a suckfest movie about HP Lovecraft mythos or b) not about HP Love craft stuf at all..

You can see a trailer for it. It doesn't look very coherent, maybe more like a weird spin on the Innsmouth story, rather than Call of Cthulhu.
