I was surprised this thread did not exist yet. I saw this film today, and it was a LOT of fun. It's pretty long for this type of movie, but the action keeps it going along at a good pace, I felt. I think my viewing experience suffered a bit, actually, because the place was so full, my brother and I had to sit in the front row. There was so much action on the screen, it was impossible to take it all in that close to the screen.

There are some mature references which give it its PG-13 as much as any violence, most likely. You may wind up explaining something to your youngest ones before you planned. Depends on each family, of course.

And, yes, it definitely bears all the marks of being a Michael Bay film, but loads better than ARMAGEDDON. There's a funny reference to that effect in the film itself!

I'm gonna see it in a few days or so. Until I watched the "HBO First Look" special on it, I was going to wait -- but it looked like Michael Bay had so much fun blowing things up and stuff, that I really really want to see it on the big screen.

I'd have to say that, yes, it does seem he had a lot of fun doing it. That comes across, IMO. I found the special effects truly amazing on this one, because I really couldn't visually tell the difference between the CGI and the real. They were very seemless in this production. Considering so much was moved about and blown up alongside actors, the melding of the real and the fake was quite accomplished.

I loved it. My wife did too. She even wants to see it again and buy it on DVD and that is a ROUSING endorsement from her.

I didn't even mind the changes. Megatron turning into some kind of jet instead of a gun was much better than the original. Optimus Prime's flames I didn't care for but there's so much action you quickly forget about them. I didn't even mind that Devastator was a tank instead of an assembly of the five or six Constructicons.

They passed an old woman who was just opening the door of a brown Cadillac. An old man was already sitting in the passenger seat. The car had a personalized plate with the letters “J-U-S-P-R-A-Y”.
“That stuff work?” Israel said to her.
“‘Scuse me?” the little old woman said, clutching her keys.
“The spray. Does it keep them away?”
“Keep who away?” She looked confused.
“I gotcha.” Israel gave her a conspiratorial wink.

Just came back from Transformers with my eight year old. He loved the action, although there is a lot of curse words. Definitely a Michael Bay movie, action wall-to-wall. On a scale of one to twenty (my son's standard movie scale rating system) he gave it an eighteen. I'm not as generous, and I gave it a sixteen. The kid (Shia Lebeouf?) was excellent, the rest of the acting was cardboard and the robots were better than the humans. The love interest was purely eye candy, like they picked her off the latest cover of Maxim magazine.

I would think that would be a good thing (just kidding). Big Grin

I liked the first third and last third of the movie, where the transformers were actually quite menancing. But that second third: That was a long commercial for the new line of transformer toys. Jive talking, hip-hop rapping, media savvy radio mouthing toys at that.

I really liked the first half of the movie. The second half I liked. I would definitely recommend the movie to anyone who likes either action or humor in their movies.
