I guess I should say the last name. It's Anderson. Hap Collins is my second favorite character, named after Joe Lansdale's greatest creation. My wife wouldn't go for Hap but I always wanted Jack anyway.

It's Thomas. I had to go look it up because I'm just tired enough right now that I couldn't be sure either. Wink

Jack Francis Anderson still sounds good. Jack Thomas Anderson is pretty darn good too.

hapcollins Wrote:Many may remember the story about why I am naming my baby Jack. I was able to sell many of my precious signed limited editions (including the hard to find Haunted Air) to help pay for several tests not covered by my insurance. Unfortunatley, we have come upon a problem. Jack will be born in 6 weeks and although naming the baby Jack was a no brainer, we can't decide on a middle name. My wife and I have been through so many names without being able to come to a resolution. This morning I thought to myself, of course we can't decide, we haven't consulted the Jack boards. Although I have read every Repairman Jack book and own almost every FPW book I don't think I know his middle name. I am open to suggestions in case the real Jack doesn't have a middle name. Hurry, time is running out. My wife may choose a middle name at random.

Generally speaking, Jack is a nickname for John. If you're actually going to name him Jack, that's fine. Jack Collins (as well as John Collins) has a nice ring to it.

This may not be what you're thinking of, but a suitable middle name might be Paul -- after F. Paul. Jack Paul Collins doesn't sound right, but John Paul Collins has a nice flow to it.

On the other hand, he doesn't HAVE to have a middle name.

On the third hand (third hand?) what about naming him after a relative?

Guess I'm not much help.

Good idea Ken.

Father and brother were both named Tom . . . Thomas.

What was your wife's maiden name. Would that fit?

A lot of people had their mothers maiden name as their own middle name. James Butler Hickock comes to mind.

Pink cheeks and shoulders thrown back would be more like it. That was a good idea Ken.

The naming of your child is difficult indeed. I've been told stories of how no name was good enough for me because of my dad. When my boy was born, it was not so hard for me. I don't think the name makes the person, I think the person makes the name. Good luck with your decision!

BTW,I've been wanting to get into the Hap Collins books, I've just been lagging, I'll get there soon!

Why is everyone wiping away tears? Is this an American thing or am I missing something?

Piotr is a good middle name (not really, it's rubbish)
