Blame the morons who purchase the tickets; Hollywood would stop making them if people refused to see them...until then expect more of the same.

A true remake would be a stupid idea... but a prequel might be interesting. The original linked page contained this link: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/news/comme...yid=409040. It suggests that maybe this new movie is more prequel than remake.

I'd prefer a continuation of the story rather than a flat-out remake. Hello, if they did another sequel Kurt Russell should still play Snake. There's something about how he's aging that lends itself to his ruggedness.

If it's a prequel it's probably going to center around the Cleveland job. I think that was a bank robbery or something that went really bad.

They passed an old woman who was just opening the door of a brown Cadillac. An old man was already sitting in the passenger seat. The car had a personalized plate with the letters “J-U-S-P-R-A-Y”.
“That stuff work?” Israel said to her.
“‘Scuse me?” the little old woman said, clutching her keys.
“The spray. Does it keep them away?”
“Keep who away?” She looked confused.
“I gotcha.” Israel gave her a conspiratorial wink.

Would be about the airborne attack on Moscow that I remember being alluded to?

I think Kurt is getting to be like John Wayne, with the eyepatch. He wore one for Captain Ron, also.

Then out spoke brave Horatius, the Captain of the Gate: "To every man upon this earth, death cometh soon or late; And how can man die better than facing fearful odds, For the ashes of his fathers, and the temples of his Gods,"
"Well, John Henry said to the Cap'n, "A man ain't nuthin' but a man. But, before I let that steam drill beat me, gonna die with my hammer in my hand, Lawd, Lawd, gonna die with my hammer in my hand."

Anybody else think that Roger Zelazny's hugo-winning story
"Damnation Alley," which was published before the creation
of "Escape From New York," was a major influence on the
latter's Director, John Carpenter?

In Damnation Alley, you have a criminal in prison, an ex
Hell's Angel, aka Hell Tanner, who is given the choice of
a life-time behind bars or an impossible mission across
an incredible apocalyptic landscape...sound familiar?

Or how about the one recurring element of Damnation
Alley, where whenever Hell Tanner would meet someone
new, and then identify himself, they would invariably
reply "I thought you were dead" or "I heard you were killed."
Sound familiar?

I'm just wondering if Carpenter ever went on record to state
that Alley was at least a major inspiration for his cult flick,
if not its outright genesis.

Only problem with that is; what are the rest of us going to watch at the cinema while the morons are watching the remakes?

If you want a night out with your partner and the only thing on at the pictures is a remake, whether you buy a ticket begrudgingly or not you still have to cough up your money!

The last thing I saw at the pictures was Hot Fuzz, and a couple of weeks before that I saw Casino Royale. The rest of the time we just end up watching DVDs becasue everything at the pictures has looked so awful!

Well if no one was going to the remakes or rehashes, the studios would be forced to consider and make other types of movies. Perhaps a film like Brick wouldn't be relegated to the art house theaters and instead get a wider release and receive the recognition it is due.

It doesn't sound like you're to satisfied with the state of films at the moment, wouldn't you rather have options for a Friday night out with your partner other than the generic fare that is so widespread today? I know I would.

I don't know what the Cleveland job is, but I do remember watching an interview of John Carpenter where he explained his decision to keep Plisken's past deliberately obscure.

All the criminals are in awe of him, so you know he's a bad man, but there was a scene where Lee Van Cleef listed some of the things Plisken was guilty of: most notable of all was raping and killing an entire family before burning their house down with them still inside.

Apparently Carpenter thought audiences would struggle to sympthaise with Plisken if they knew that (a safe bet, I'd say!) Even for an antihero that is pretty deranged!!
