Anyone heard of this? It snuck under the radar for me; apparently it comes out tomorrow. It's about a serial killer who hires a documentary crew to tag along while he... well, while he kills people.

Behind the Mask

They passed an old woman who was just opening the door of a brown Cadillac. An old man was already sitting in the passenger seat. The car had a personalized plate with the letters “J-U-S-P-R-A-Y”.
“That stuff work?” Israel said to her.
“‘Scuse me?” the little old woman said, clutching her keys.
“The spray. Does it keep them away?”
“Keep who away?” She looked confused.
“I gotcha.” Israel gave her a conspiratorial wink.

I saw this movie last week. It's gone this week. And I liked the movie. I just think it went over people's heads.

Basically, it is a satire of the "slasher" genre. In the movie, characters like Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Michael Myers really exist. A documentary crew follows a new and upcoming slasher to learn how he works and how he thinks. This is the funny part, where Leslie explains to the audience how he prepares for his killing spree. He talks about doing his "cardios" to stay in shape so while his victims are running from him, he must appear to be walking. He also explains how he appears before a victim and vanishes when the victim turns away a moment. Great stuff. Imagine Christopher Guest filming a slasher flick and you get the idea.

But that's not all. When the slasher begins his killing spree, the documentary crew decides they must stop him; at which point, the documentary turns into a slasher film with all the conventions and cliches it just deconstructed coming into play. It becomes a scary movie.

I recommend this as a rental. It is very funny, especially if you're familiar with the genre, and very witty.

What AC said; I loved it. I also think Nathan Baesel could make a decent Jack.
