For those of you who enjoy your 'just desserts' stories, and I know you do, do yourselves a favor and rent this little Irish gem. Paddy Considine stars as the older brother to a mentally-challenged brother who was brutalized by the local gang when he was off serving in the military. It's kind of a Death Wish with a twist of RJ humor mixed in. It has one scene that is worth the rental alone-a true classic.

I've yet to see it, but heard it is a doozy.

Fyi, it's a British film, not Irish. Wink

Damn my American ears. I was guessing based strictly upon the name Paddy which I thought was strictly an Irish one.

Yeah, Paddy is confusing as it is an Irish version of Patrick, but I had a friend growing up in London called Patrick Murphy, born in the UK, no-one ever called him Patrick, always Paddy. As far as I recall neither of his parents were Irish (but grandparents may have been another story).

Paddy Considine was born in the Midlands (where I believe the film is set), and for the record, does a great comedy turn in Hot Fuzz.

Speaking of which, you MUST see the cartoons called The Auld Soode (I think that's the name) they are recordings of actual interviews with children in the 50's about God - set to wonderful cartoon characters. Won an Academy Award or at least a nomination.

Would that be the tea scene? I rented this when it first came out but I can't remember too much about it. I know I was mixed on whether or not I liked it. Paddy was very intense and definitely gave you the sense that he was a dangerous man. The film just lacked that certain something to make it a true sleeper. Maybe I'll rent it again and give it another try, though.

I loved the tea scene, but the clown face had me in stitches. You're right though, it was a near miss, but ultimately I was glad I watched it.
