Dead Man's Shoes - Scott Miller - 02-22-2007 For those of you who enjoy your 'just desserts' stories, and I know you do, do yourselves a favor and rent this little Irish gem. Paddy Considine stars as the older brother to a mentally-challenged brother who was brutalized by the local gang when he was off serving in the military. It's kind of a Death Wish with a twist of RJ humor mixed in. It has one scene that is worth the rental alone-a true classic. Fyi, it's a British film, not Irish. ![]() Dave Dead Man's Shoes - Scott Miller - 02-22-2007 Dave Wrote:I've yet to see it, but heard it is a doozy. Damn my American ears. I was guessing based strictly upon the name Paddy which I thought was strictly an Irish one. Dead Man's Shoes - Dave - 02-22-2007 Scott Miller Wrote:Damn my American ears. As far as I recall neither of his parents were Irish (but grandparents may have been another story). Paddy Considine was born in the Midlands (where I believe the film is set), and for the record, does a great comedy turn in Hot Fuzz. Dave Dead Man's Shoes - Weatherford - 02-22-2007 dahlin' - wit a naam lik paddy murrrrphy, ya can b'surrrr yer man was frrrrrom the auld sodde.... ![]() Speaking of which, you MUST see the cartoons called The Auld Soode (I think that's the name) they are recordings of actual interviews with children in the 50's about God - set to wonderful cartoon characters. Won an Academy Award or at least a nomination. Dead Man's Shoes - Sam - 02-23-2007 Scott Miller Wrote:It has one scene that is worth the rental alone-a true classic. Would that be the tea scene? I rented this when it first came out but I can't remember too much about it. I know I was mixed on whether or not I liked it. Paddy was very intense and definitely gave you the sense that he was a dangerous man. The film just lacked that certain something to make it a true sleeper. Maybe I'll rent it again and give it another try, though. Dead Man's Shoes - Scott Miller - 02-23-2007 Sam Wrote:Would that be the tea scene? You're right though, it was a near miss, but ultimately I was glad I watched it. |
