Mistake free filmmaking. It couldn't have been more perfect. Great script, great cast with many memorable performances put together by a great director. The less you know about the film the more you will enjoy it. I wouldn't think a crime drama could win best picure at the Oscars but if any could this would be the one. I caught the matinee and the theater was close to being full. Normally there would be 5 to 10 people. Might be because I live in the Boston area where it was filmed and most people had the day off but nonetheless it looks as if it's going to be a very popular film.

I've been trying to see "The Departed" since it opened. But it's been sold out at every show in the theaters near me. I'm seeing it tomorrow, right after work. Can't wait.

Years ago my mother used to say to me... "In this world, Elwood, you can be oh so smart or oh so pleasant."
Well, for years I was smart.
I recommend pleasant.

This is original, but I've never seen it yet.

I'll go to see The Departed anyway. I am Jack Nicholson fan. He's great! Smile

I saw Infernal Affairs a few years ago, I think I recommended it on this board.

The one review I have read about The Departed says it is better than the original, which is a bold statement, as I thought the original was a damn fine piece of movie making.

I heard it was really good. Just below Goodfellas good. Agree?

They passed an old woman who was just opening the door of a brown Cadillac. An old man was already sitting in the passenger seat. The car had a personalized plate with the letters “J-U-S-P-R-A-Y”.
“That stuff work?” Israel said to her.
“‘Scuse me?” the little old woman said, clutching her keys.
“The spray. Does it keep them away?”
“Keep who away?” She looked confused.
“I gotcha.” Israel gave her a conspiratorial wink.

Strangely enough I was going to put down on the original post that it was almost as good as Goodfellas but I didn't want it turning into an all day thing trying to rank Scorcese's films.

After I see it 10 more times like I've seen Goodfellas I'll be able to put it in perspective.

STUPENDOUS! REMARKABLE! RIVETING!

It is THE best movie this year, bar none, and will take home the Oscar and this year, finally, Scorcese will take his long overdue Oscar home, too.

What a movie! It grabs you from the first scene and the first licks of "Let It Bleed." Every performance is a gem. It's a great script with terrific dialogue. The film is seamless. I've got to see it again. It's rich and so layered with parallel plot lines running rings around each other.

I've got to get the soundtrack, but it's not released yet.

LOVED THIS MOVIE!!!!!

Yes, that, too! Big Grin

"The Departed" really is seamless given all the threads that are running through it.

If you pull on one, will it unravel?
