If he had been younger and not remembered it would that have made a difference?

It seemed like sending a vampire to AA meetings to stop drinking blood ...

No, more along the lines of the way Harry nurtured his affliction. Could he have been talked out of becoming what he is if he had been raised under different circumstances?

I think Dexter would be a serial killer no matter what.

The people at Showtime decided he would be a serial killer, so he is. Don't compare him to the books. Nothing is the same.

I agree. I just think that at points in the TV series Dexter has questioned whether or not his upbringing is responsible for his condition. I think everyone has murderous tendencies but most everyone is able to suppress them. In most cases where someone isn't able to, it is due to an event or events that have happened to them, shaped them into a monster. Of course this is not forgivable but it does help to try to prevent creating other monsters, or at least less.

I can't compare them to the books as I haven't read them other than the first.

Regardless of Dexter being found (the way he was) throughout his teenaged life and above, he knew what he would be like - from Harry. Harry reinforced the image Dexter had of himself.

One might wonder, who really had serial killer tendencies in them - if not Harry?

Exactly. He forged a weapon.

I think Dexter would have been a serial killer wheather Harry 'forged' him or not.
If he hadnt been caught killing animals as a kid he would have continued on his serial killer path without the code until he was caught.

But what if Harry had taken him to therapy instead of teaching him the code - then would he still have been a serial killer? Can you remove the urge from someone who has it?

I think he could have coped with his homicidal tendencies...but having to learn Windows Vista would have put him over the edge eventually, anyway.

Heh.

Axioms Jack seems to live by (inadvertantly or not):

Why he does what he does: "I chose this life. I know what I'm doing. And on any given day, I could stop doing it. Today, however, isn't that day. And tomorrow won't be either." Bruce Wayne, Identity Crisis

On Rasalom: "Water's wet, the sky is blue...and good old Satan Claus, Jimmy...he's out there...and he's just gettin' stronger." Joe Hallenbeck, The Last Boyscout

I agree that Dexter was pretty far gone and probably going to kill so I'm on Harry's side with what he did.

Which I think is the $24 question; nature vs. nurture?

Ha.

Maybe it's because I really don't count on my computer for much more than I'm doing now but Vista seems pretty much the same as XP to me-except that the Hearts game sucks ass with how slow it goes.
